... I don't see the benefits of upgrading the z68 tbh.

I can understand not buying another z68 if your current one breaks, but in all honesty, I'd divert the funds for buying a new mobo and a gfxcard into just buying a better gfcard again.

Instead of a 7950, you could then perhaps get a 7970 or even a 680.

?

wow that's cheap! wish i had the money to get two!
i was going to ask what's the difference between Z68 and Z77?

Z77 is primarily designed for Intel's 3rd generation of Core processors, code named Ivy Bridge. That being said, it is backwards compatible with Sandy Bridge also.
Z77 comes with native USB3 from Intel (no 3rd party controllers needed) and PCIe Gen 3.0. It should be noted that the PCIe 3.0 is only there when you use an Ivy CPU, as the North Bridge is now on-die.
Ivy Bridge CPUs work better on Z77 motherboards, but I don't think that Sandy Bridge CPUs are the same. They were designed for Z68, so I don't think you'd gain any performance benefit from 'upgrading'.

not worth it in my opinion,as a few others have said get a better gpu, asrock have had good bios updates and ivy works great on them.

ok thanks for all your help guys!
i'm going to go with the HD 7970 as seumasbeathan found a really good one for just over £35 more then the HD 7950 from Sapphire i was looking at!

dunna know how id be done, but is there a comparo using the same latest GPU
card in a similar ivey vs sandy rig to show any degradation between platforms?
if you have a Z77 system with 8.5 cinebench and a z68 with the same 8.5 cinebench
score, placing a new HD7950 or GTX670 in either platform, does this yield similar
or completely different results in game play and application work flow?

sounds like i just made a new thread...
