How much do you need to spend to get a decent gaming rig? With the help of PCSpecialist, we've put together a great rig for an impressive price.

My steam box/LAN box was going to be an itx system for around the same price and its amazing how much more expensive the ITX AMD motherboards are. I had to really scale down the graphics (to a 650ti) and get a tiny SSD in order to stay in budget. All the good motherboards cost more than the cpu :l. Thats the issue with cheap OCable cpus I guess :s. In the end I also had to settle with this as a build. It was an easy sell though ^_^.

Interesting how surprisingly good the pentiums are at gaming. I really was expecting it to struggle alot more than it did. I wouldn't want a pentium for games like Star Citizen though.

Going to show my brother in law this before he gets a console, nothing wrong with a console but he's turning what was once a powerful rig of a Core 2 Duo, Asus P5B Deluxe, 8GB RAM and a 4850 into a bit of a NAS as his NAS box is broke, and will get a console as well.

Keep telling him to join these forums and look at some of the smaller builds.

Edit: Okay there is something not right if my rig is only doing 20fps with Arkham Origins!

Going to be building a rig something like what you have there.. Just want to ask though how well does it overclock? I know lottery and all that, just is there much to be gained in performance?

Also I just love philips site. Its awesome for getting, thecheapest kit out there

The chip can OC quite well. The perfomance boost is quite nice although not many motherboards can really support high OCs. Normally if the motherboard costs more than the 750k it'll do fine :P. At least that kinda feels the case with Athlons. I just left mine at stock as it has a chance to get quite warm quite easily. The CPU cooler isn't designed for OCing so that was a limiting factor. TBH the cooler was more than adequate, its just a better bet to get something like a hyper 212/seidon120v if you want to get some high OCs in.

Excellent little chip though, got more grunt then a 4300 (in my experience) and has better single core performance then other AMD chips, especially Bulldozer.

Was going to be my first foray into the world of the custom loop, so I think cooling should be ok.. Unless I chicken out at the amount of money and get a CLC

Yeah, awesome. Great to see this - most of my friends think they have to spend insane amount of money to get a good gaming pc. Because most of them look at pre builds and think they have to buy a €1000 rig to be able to play at decent settings. While those machines often dont perform much better then this little rig we got here.

Cheers for posting some benchmarks for this budget.

awesome little budget build, i did a little build for my sons, these runs a A10 5800k with 8 gig of ddr3 corsair ram, does have a 270 in there aswell, and runs bf3 and bf4 nicely, and now mantle is out even more so. cant fault little builds they surprise the best of us

Nice, it's cool to see some budget builds with how well they can perform. I quite like the look of out of the two, the amd with the a88x mobo, a r9 270 and a 760k (and the hyper evo for a little oc):) with even the option to upgrade it to a possible (if released) Steamroller Athlon.
