Basic build for little bro

Hey,

I'm looking to build a basic comp for my little bro to use and need some advice. He wont be doing any gaming on it just a lot of web browsing (mostly youtube) so needs to be able to streaming some 1080p content.

Not entirely sure on budget lol, trying to keep it as low as possible and will probably look to grab some bits from ebay etc.

I guess you could say I'm asking if you were building a comp for a 15 year old just for online media consumption and keeping costs down what would you build. (monitor and peripherals not needed)

Cheers

I would probably say an AMD build would be the cheapest build for that sort of thing and will still give reasonable performance for the money and if the budget is real tight the AMD apu's will handle video real nice without having to put in a graphics card hope this helps a bit

Without an idea of a rough budget at all, this is very difficult.

-Generally though, AMD APU if you're really trying to save money, i3 if you can shed a bit more.
-Corsair CX500 PSU
-8gb of 1600mhz RAM (maybe 4gb if you really want to save money) Brand doesn't matter so much, could go second hand off ebay if you wanted.
-Cheap case (maybe second hand? - although shipping cases is a hassle so look at local classifieds, or just buy a cheap new case).
-Got a spare Hard drive?
-Try and put in an SSD or some sort if possible. Biggest performance increase he'll see.

Something like below should run most things well and would even run alot of the basic/slightly older games + the free mmo/shooters as a bonus cause of the apu on the cpu's if he ever wanted to play them, tho at a pretty low quality set for most of them.

CPU - AMD A4 4000 3.0 dualcore /A6 6400 3.9 dualcore (30/60 respectively)
Mobo - any FM2 socket should do (40-60??)
RAM - 4GB of 1333/1600 (30-35 respectively)
PSU - Corsair cx430 (35 or 40 for a modular version)
Case - Anything cheap will do tbh as nothing to hot is going into it (15-30)

150 - 245 depending what parts you choose to pic you will need a HDD and maybe a disk drive there aswell but they are up to you as to if you need a dvd drive and how much storage you think he will need.

Yea was probably going down the route of amd just cause of cost and what he uses it for. What recommendations would you guys give.

Sorry for being so vague about the budget lol, £300 is prob the highest I would go to and despite my best efforts to convince him he only wants to game on a console so just keeping it cheap.. maybe one day he'll learn

HDD shouldn't be a prob, can give him the 1tb wd black in my comp as I really need to up my storage.

cheers

Whatever you get, I would try to make sure it's got a PCI-E slot on it. The kid is 15 and will play games even if they have an Xbox or PS3. Having that spare PCI-E slot will at least enble him to stick a cheap video card in later if he decides to give PC gaming a shot.
