Barcelona May Live Up to Hype After All

It seems as if AMD's Barcelona may put up quite a fight with Intel's current line of Xeon, and Barcelona actually beat Clovertown with room to spare in these tests. Check out the news for the full story.

Tell us what you think below.

Sounds encouraging, especially given the clock difference between the Barca and the Clover. (btw I only see a nice AMD logo when I click on the link)

same here

Lets hope they haven't put so many resources into producing it that they will have to charge a bomb for them. C2Ds were and still are stupidly well priced and wouldnt have been such a huge success otherwise.

If Barcelona is well priced then wehey :rocker:

OK so the speculative numbers look good, which is great for AMD and for us consumers - nothing like healthy competition.

As per usual Inq. get it wrong though. The data they used is based on the graph below, the Barca is clocked at 2.6GHz NOT 2.3GHz as stated.

This doesn't take away the fact that the possible performance looks promising but I'm waiting for real figures from reliable sources.

I hope AMD pull this one off...

Very happy with this, hopefully it just doesn't turn out to be something leaked or false info leaked to increase interest in the Barcelona line.

Always be weary of 1 stat being quoted as a beater. It`s good to get a whole line of results, see where it may win and what it fails at. Hopefully there will be a nice spread of wins and `comes close`.

Gotta echo the price thing too, that`s another important stat.

This is just more AMD marketing garbage, I'm sure it'll still be getting its arse pounded by the Xeons when it actually hits the street (as we've seen so far).

While I agree, I say give them time, AMD have held back with the current line up of any major change, now this means have they been working on something utterly ground breaking to beat Intel?
