Backing up program

I've just got a NAS solution sorted. Excellent.

Now I want to setup a folder for each user for just dumping their stuff. Sorted easily enough with a network drive.

Now I think the best solution then is to have a folder for each user for backing up various stuff..such as my pictures.

My synology did come with a program called replicator or something but its not really flexibile and was hoping somebody knew of a (hopefully free) program to help me out.

I'd like compression and incremental (only backup when changes occur such as deletion, modification or additions) but also allowing different backup restore points. So in case I accidentally delete something and think a couple of days later...oh shiiii! I can get it back. It then needs to delete older versions after x amount etc.

Any ideas or am I looking at acronis...

Just tried acronis true image.

It does pretty much exactly what I need.

Pricey though!

I think the money spent on Acronis is well worth it in the case of hardware-failure or dataloss!

Not thought of managing it yourself for free. Using batch files with robocopy on windows or shell scripts for mac/linux using rsync?

The above method is already installed on your machine.

Just though i'd update the thread and say I think i've found a decent solution.

Freefilesync seems to sync all changes (inc deletions) to a folder of your choice. But any files that change or deleted are kept in a versions folder. I'm going to use this as a "recycle bin" so to speak just in case.

You can set it to keep so many file revisions too. Free and simple!
