no doubt the d14 is a much more capable cooler, but your temperatures still sound abnormal especially for a fairly low voltage. I don't know though, it might just be one of those weird things that doesn't entirely make sense. I would give reseating a try though.

did you specifically choose the LP noctua for this build or is it something you had already?

it was on hand in away lol long story breifed up. I made a trade with a mate in NY I bought him a 7870 and he gave me his sli470's his Asus P6X58E-Ws mobo and 920 cpu. I dont care for Asus mobo's btw. Now this imho was a good trade as I sold the 470's for 190$ shipped. Leaving me the mobo and cpu. since it was going to be a backup rig I had other gpus about to use. Well I didnt have a cooler for it so I grabbed this NH-L12 off another forum as I had planned on running it stock anyways. My issues with Asus mobo's stem from my past and overclocking with them. Well I had the P6X58 and 920 on a couple forums for sale to get feelers for it. I noticed about a month into it that this bloke posted the setup I just bought for sale which included 12Gb of Corsair memoery for 180$ shipped. Now I love MSI boards (prefer Gigabyte) and it had a 920 and the ram for alot less than I was selling my cpu and mobo for. So I snatched it up. Turned around and listed my mobo and cpu for what I just paid for the other setup and well now I'm in my pickle as I like MSI I want to keep this and OC it lol. I may look into getting an H100 or D-14 at some point but for now I'll just keep it low. Currently priming at 3.6 and havent changed vcore again yet so in bios its at 1.15 cpuz reports 1.14 temps staying at or under 77 so I'm prolly staying there. Til I get better cooling.

i love msi motherboards too, but my last build consisted of a sabertooth x58 and 920 cpu and it would do 4.4ghz no problem with my d14 so i can't complain about asus in that case.
also my dad is using the rampage iv extreme currently which is very good.
one thing i've noticed though is that with the z77 msi board it boots so fast it completely skips any king of bios readout stuff and just jumps right into the windows load screen, which dramatically decreases boot time. also all the 3d bois stuff is nice as well. i havent really played with too many z77 boards from asus or gigabyte but i have seen some of them still displaying the traditional bios boot readout stuff.
one thing i can say is that the rampage 4 board boots really slow and shows tons of bios boot stuff but aside from that the 3930k we have will do 5ghz at 1.42V with the h100 so no complaints there (except i hate h100s , all the ones Ive seen have had disgustingly loud pumps IMO) obviously the opside of closed loop water coolers is you can see more of the board but the d14 is so much quieter than the h100's we've had i like the d14 so much more.
so i've had pretty much all good experiences with asus boards but im using an msi myself these days and i like it a lot the mpower is really really modern
77C for the LP noctua seems decent I guess. that sounds like a good place to stay with that cooler.
