AX1200 or AX850?

I'm going to order my parts tomorrow morning and I'm wanting to know if the AX850 is definitely enough to power 2 gtx 580 lightnings in SLI with overclocks and a 2600k with overclocks? or should I go to the AX1200 to be safe and there's no problem in money.

850 is plenty

Even for future upgrades? can't think what'll use more than this within my price range

But are you absolutely sure? lol because I don't want to have to get a bigger one.

My guess would be that it will be just about fine on the AX850. However if money doesn't really matter I would still suggest the AX1200 for expansion. It will give you a lot more breathing room for the future and will allow for really high overclocks.

I'm sure if he's buying a 2600 & 2 x 580's... when he is looking to upgrade in so many months/years time, he'd upgrade the PSU too.

The AX 1200 is overkill in my opinion.

The ax1200 is nearly 94% efficiant at 50-80% load,and the ax850 is (only

) 89% efficiant at same loads.

The ax1200 is silent at these loads,and the ax850 is running a little higher fanspeed.

My reason asking is Scan are out of stock and I was going to order from ebuyer but for me to have for friday I'd need to pay £8 delivery but I found another site,

Box.co.uk who seem to have good reviews all round and have a free next day delivery with DPD for orders over £100 so may as well go with them plus the PSU is only £195 compared to £203 at ebuyer or £207 at scan.

DPD are really good - scan use them as well. Whenever I have gotten anything they send me an email and sms message to tell me when it will be delivered, and then on the day an hour slot in which it will be delivered. They haven't failed yet. For me Ebuyer's free delivery always takes 5 days...

Yeh that's why I skipped ebuyer and box.co.uk seem very good, proven with their reviews of the site and service overall, just going to order all my parts from scan and the ax1200 from box.co.uk and they are cheaper for the psu which is a benefit.

Well first of, the AX850 should be enough to power your rig. But you have to remember PSUs are most efficient at 50% and that they are also quieter when operating at a lower wattage. Since you'll be overclocking the cards and CPU I would get the AX1200, it will be running at peak efficiency and it just gives you the future proofing. But you can get away with a AX850 quite easily.

Ordered my stuff today and just went with the AX1200 from box.co.uk as I said I would and the rest from scan

Can't wait to get the parts, happy with my choices

Get the 1200 and be safe, unless you have a psu'less rig like me, in which case just pop the 850 in there and then use the 1200 in the 580 sli rig when you've got it
