Well, most of you know I am back to gaming more than I bench...... at least I was.

I was running World Of Warcraft on my 4th character a Priest by the name of Kentsfield (as I was first to have a run in the UK) on the Lightbinger Alliance EU server - on a trip back to sentinel hill in Westfall the system crashes :(

So I think I will have a looksie to see whats going on - an hour past and I was no further forward to finding the mystery fault, having swapped out the graphics card, PSU Swap.

I was just getting ready for the mobo switch (praying it was not teh cpu when I realised that it was time to check the unlikely - the OCZ XTC PC8000 ram that had been running flawlessly since it was installed in July (lifetime warranty still intact :)) - running a moddest 920mhz @ 4-4-4-12 with just 2.1v.

To my bewilderment one of these beautiful sticks of ram had blown :O

Now this is the first time in a long long time that I have had RAM give up the ghost on me - especially after running so well for so long - of course it has to happen now when realistically it'll be 10days before I can get my hands on some more (of course I will now be bidding on Stocky's RAM :D ).

It'll be even longer before the RMA comes through as it will no doubt have to go back to OCZ for replacement.

So an early xmas faux pas at mav's lodge and the title sums up exactly what I said when the fault was identified.

OCZs RMA turnaround time was pretty impressive for me, but given the time of year, yea, probs 10 days + :(

Never a good time to have dead hardware though :(

I guess you still have 1 stick?

Pop down to PC World and get some value crap. At least you will be able to play WoW - I guess you have a widescreen monitor?? (If you havent seen "make love not warcraft" southpark, type it into youtube and get ready to laugh)

Always sucks when hardware fails, especially at this time of year when you know the wait could be a while.

Hope you get sorted soon.

Sorry to hear this Mav, hope you get it sorted soon. Do you think it could have been the 2.1V that blew it?

Nah - OCZ OVP warranty is set at 2.35v so got lots of room there - the biggest downer is that whilst advancekill is right I still got one stick - when I RMA, both sticks will have to go back as it s a dual channel kit.

This clearly makes having a cheapo back-up set justifiable.

Back in the 939 days it was never an issue as I always had 3 or 4 pairs of ram hanging around - and it was mostly bullet proof BH5.
