I thought this was quite interesting. Especially given the fact most people seem to use, promote and worship NOD32 (which came 16th)

Well it still picked up 88%, so it's not 'crap' or anything, just found it interesting.
Also I'm pretty sure NOD32 was pretty low on the anti-virus definition deployment speed test that was carried out last year.
I guess it depends on how you test the software really.
Testing with over 600,000 known viruses is pretty extensive in comparison to a lot of other 'tests'

Here's the results from Virus Bulletin who have been testing AV software every month on various platforms since 1998:
NOD32: 43 Success / 3 Failure
F-Secure: 26 Success / 12 Failure
Kaspersky: 38 Success / 13 Failure
Mcafee: 30 Success / 19 Failure
Sophos: 37 Success / 12 Failure
Symantec Corp: 37 Success / 6 Failure
A failure means that the software either failed to detect the set of viruses they tested it what that month, failed to run on the operating system it was tested on or failed in their performance testing.

Doesn't say what platform, what specific product was tested or even what viruses
(I'm guessing there are variations in the viruses tested considering the variations in the number of results)

The 'tests' date back to 1998 and are based on the whole range of each companies products. Most of the fails are from 2002 or before 2002.
A bit different to testing current products against current viruses under the same contitions tbh.

Anything that lists panda and Symantic above NOD32 is complete

no matter what i use, i always get other apps catching things that the others dont. NoD32 has blocked some doosies but then when i scan with S+D or AdAware they both pick up a lot of different little nasties
although the fact that symantec, of all apps is above NOD32 makes me think something was done seriously wrong lol. infact i'm surprised that the PC survived the testing while running it

I always tell people to use 2 virus checkers. One running regularly and in the background, and one u can use to test u`r system in addition either weekly or monthly depending how paranoid u r. Online ones are usually fine as a second, although finding a free one these days (that doesn`t want u`r email to sell on or spam u with) is rare.
Isn`t it amazing, I`ve use ZA for years (a Kasp variant I believe) and got nothing, used that NOD thing recently and had nothing, and got a pc or 2 with nothing perminent on them - and they`re always clean.
I think net`equette comes into it alot tbh. I find myself looking at alot of things offered for download or execution and frankly think "nah m8 not me".

all they did was test a certain number of viruses to see which got picked up, not sure you can miss anything out
I really don't like symantec either and in the definition deployment speed thing (last year) they were near the bottom, despite using that annoying updater that downloads something like 5mb on each update lol
The test I posted isn't really about what is the best all round etc, it just gives an idea on how good the different AntiVirus apps are at picking up known viruses.
There are so many aspects to antivirus nowadays. You have viruses, spyware and even rootkits. (& hybrids)
I would really like to see a good comparison on rootkit protection.

Symantec blocks emails as a possibility of a virus. Maybe they count emails as viruses now? Effective 
I've used a program called AntiVir and have done since being on the net. I've not had any problems and has detected a number of trojans over the time. It also leaves me to do my own business and doesn't pop up every 2 seconds

And it's also worth a mention up to last year (not sure n this year) NOD32 had 100% pickup of "in the wild" viruses
