ATI vs. NVIDIA

It has been long debated between people which cards are better for gaming ATI or Nvidia. I personally use an Nvidia. I hear the ATI has better picture quality. But Nvidia has better performance. Any thoughts on this matter?

I tend to stick to nvidia for the simple fact that theyre drivers are slicker.

If an ATI card came out that was significantly better (price:performance) then i wouldn't hesitate in buying it though.

Its just about which is fastest really :p

I see I just stick with Nvidia because there cards are usally relatively the same so I just dont bother switchign between products when I know one is good. But if ATI did come out with a significantly better one then I would switch as well.

I am a big Nvidia Fanboy. I love the company. And I love their products.

So even if ATI came up with a hugely quicker card, I would not switch for it.

Plus, as Hamster said.. The ATI drivers are utter poo! And I ask, why do you need Net fooking Framework... Just for the control panel? Seriously!

NVIDIA FTW :D

I go for whatever is the best at the time.

Almost all of my GPU's up to my latest one have been nVidia.

I chose nVidia for a few reasons, mainly driver support for linux.

I guess I had gone for nVidia previously as their build quality, support and drivers was superior to ATi.

On my X1900XT I decided to go ATI as there were problems with the nVidia cards and also the X1900XT seemed to perform better when using Anti-Aliasing etc. Also the linux ATi drivers seemed to have improved a lot.

I think a nvidia card with the same performance was also a lot more expensive at the time. :)

I'm not sure about picture quality. I've seen comparisons, but I'm not sure they were fair tests.

NVidia wins everytime for me, I started off with a ATI X800 Pro which was great with nice sleek drivers but ever since the catalyst become bulky I have stuck with NVidia simply because of lighter drivers and they tend to run cooler and quiter.

whoever is producing the right card at the right price when I have the cash in my pocket. Not loyal to either brand as I've used both in the past and never had any problems with either.

I have to use Nvidia for my games PC as ATI do not support a Triplehead2Go at 3840 x 1024 resolution across 3 screens

Almost perfect shop response :p

Ati drivers = black tape.

I'll second that remark.........;). I've used both and have no problem with either of them, depending on the generation. The old ATi 9xxx series was the killer back in the day, I had 9500, 9700 and 9800 and all the drivers worked without any issues for me, but I don't really care for their new CCC drivers at all. On the other hand I think Nvidias new driver layout with all the performance options in nTune totally sucks as well, so it's sort of a coin

.

Get whichever performs best for the cash......:)

from what i've noticed in the past few years is NVidia tend to do things first, followed by ATI doing something slightly better at a competitive price, usually meaning people who like to be up to date tend to own NVidia cards and ATI owners tend to be going for value for money (obviously many exceptions). But as everyone else has said, if the ATI alternative is superior enough to put up with the ghastly software then i'm all for it :)

So far I've only had nvidia (7300GT, 2x7900GT, 7900GTO, 8800GTS, 8800GT).

I have nothing against ATI and will have one in my rig as soon as they beat nvidia's performance!

I will admit that it's been a few nasty years for ATI, but sooner or later they'll have to get their act together.............;) I still remember the days when they were at the top of the heap, that was when Nvidia was offering up thier slow hot running shop vac's ...............;). Not all that long ago really.

i go for whatever is worth the money, but have to say nvidia at the moment are producing much better cards now than ati. Also i've got a x850 pro and catalyst control centre doesn't work at all. Says contact administrator when i go to open it, when there is only one user on the computer.

Iv always had ATI (not by choice) and the drivers are horrible so i have alwyas craved for an Nvidia . I am going to use an Nvidia on my new build

id have either ... no problems with my previous ATi :) apart from the bulcky catalyst and no problems soo far with my Nvidia 8600GT :D

performance for money is what will make me buy a card

I'm an ATI fan boy.. Not really had any problems with drivers etc, but when I had my first radeon, the performance decreased when they released catalyst. (3dfx Voodoo 1 ftw!, Rage Pro AIW, Radeon first gen, 8500, nvidia 5900ultra (bleugh!) :p, 850XT Pe and 2900xt :D)

nvidia are producing better cards though, for the time being. :)

I agree completely.

Fanboys confuse me, you know you can get better at a certain time and yet you buy the inferior card/s  (not aimed specifically at you btw, just in general).

Although to be fair the 5 series would be enough to put anybody off.
