ati 4870 compatability help

hi guys,

I have an asus crosshair ii motherboard which has the 780a nvidia chipset,

after receiving a faulty card xfx have said they can replace it with an

ATI 4870 1Gb DDR5 XXX

or

Gtx 280 for an extra £50

I was just wondering would the ati card be compatible with my board?

I know crossfire wouldn't be possible but that doesn't worry me much as this card should keep me going for a while on its own.

no worries mate,but why dont you get the 280? as you have a SLi board?

just money really, i have run out and it would cost an additional £50, plus both cards are pretty good.... i will upgrade to the gtx300 series maybe next year some time when they get cheaper but until then the cheaper 4870 will do fine... plus its the oced version at 775mhz so it seems like a decent free upgrade from an 8800gt

yer fair one mate,ur right save for the 300 series.

yep quite a good jump from an 8800gt to a 4870 there on par with the 260.

I have similar problem with ATi HD 5850. The solution was - USE another VGA

it must of been a faulty card then mate as ATI cards will will work on nforce boards and visaversa.
