Thx for the reply guys. and yes i am speaking about the ranger. this will be my first pc build and jabe been researching for around a year but my knowledge is still very poor i was under the impression that i would need to use both red pci slots to take advantage of sli?

Yes, you use both red slots and most video cards are dual slot. The image is slightly deceiving though, as right under the first red PCI-E slot there is an empty space where another slot could've been installed, but Asus made the decision to leave it out completely.

In other words, the space is there, just the physical PCI slot isn't.
