Asus Z87 Boards Support The Devils Canyon CPU

Asus released a new bios for pretty much it's entire range of Z87 motherboards over the past week that makes all Z87 boards fully compatible with the upcoming Devils Canyon CPU meaning those of us who splurged out a few hundred notes don't need to buy yet another new board just for the CPU.

Before the update I didn't even give DC a 2nd look but now I will definitely get the CPU once it's released seeing as I don't need to replace my board.

Thoughts ?

That's what I was worried about, because I'm thinking Intel might do something to stop this, especially if it is also done by other brands. Hopefully Intel lets it all happen, because really it means more sales for them, and less for board manufacturers.

I though I read the same thing somewhere. Very good news indeed! The only downside is that my OEM Windows version probably wouldn't like the new CPU I am still considering a change- over as this could eliminate my 95°C CPU/ 36°C H100i situation. I'll wait for reviews first.

But, the voltage controller was removed from devils canyon cpus and instead with z97 boards it was put on the motherboard.

So with devils crayon cpu and z87 motherboard combo, there won't be a voltage controller !?!!? it just wont work

This reminds me of when they said they could enable PCI-E 3.0 on P67 and Z68 boards through a BIOS update with Ivy Bridge CPUs, because the Bandwith for the first x16 slot came from the PCI-E controller on the CPU and not the motherboard.

That never happened, would be good if they did enable DC on Z87 though.

I did talk to a guy at Asus and he said they've done internal testing and it's a green light for DC and Z87.

They didn't remove the voltage controller as no where officially states that DC had it removed infact all the information states is they they added capacitors to the back of the processor to "smooth" power delivery, Improved FIVR *Fully Integrated Voltage Regulator/Controller*, Improved TIM and nothing about removing the voltage controller on Devils Canyon.


Even Broadwell will still have a voltage regulator on chip according to Intel themselves, The whole moving the VC off chip was a community started rumor, Nothing more.

Also every Z87 board Asus have has this on their CPU compatibility list, So far I've checked all Asus Z87 boards and all list DC as just needing a bios update -
