I have the Phoebus and it's a gaming card through and through, Not really meant for music and movies though.

Well then, get a Fiio e10. 
Though, if you need decent output for speaker, that might not be an optimal choice. But, looking at your signature, logitech gaming speakers should be perfectly fine with onboard audio. Come to think of it, that's a really subtle way of insulting your speakers.

I've heard good things about that.
Yeah the Pheobus isnt for music or films, I couldnt use one in my rig.

I had the phoebus, and found it terrible. Great that it supported 7.1 but that is where my joy ended.
Drivers are awful, latency is bad meaning line in use for guitars and such causes great delay (Throw the idea of playing Rocksmith out of the window. You can't play it with the solo)
On top of that drivers are still beta since it was released years ago.
I switched for the STX and was blown away by the sound. Music and movies is fantastic. Gaming is great too. My only gripe is the need for additional molex connector to power it and stands out in my rig, when I try to hide as much cabling as possible. The headphone amplification is just phenomenal!

Isn't Rocksmith played with an USB adapter that connects to your guitar anyway?
Thanks for the replies, I'm currently using onboard and its terrible, There's a pretty big difference between on board and the D2X, I know the speakers aren't exactly the best but I find them adequate to use for my PC.
The D2X lasted just under 3 years so its not too bad, I have decided to give the Phoebus a go since price wise its virtually the same as the D2X, if its no good I'll return it and buy a D2X.
Hopefully some time next year i'll be getting a AV receiver and some decent speakers/sub, until then the Logi's will have to do.

Just remember the Phoebus is purely a gaming soundcard, Music and films still sounds great but not as good as other, Games on the other hand are freakin awesome sounding

it is, but it still depends massively on the processing lag through your sound card.
While I own a legit copy, I am still not satisfied with the RT cable and so I use the nocable fix which allows me to use my own high quality cable. Sound is vastly superior however as Sub as stated. Either method relies on processing lag.
Also I use Guitar rig which uses a larger jack for one, this is accomodated by the STX so I can use a HQ cable direct into the soundcard. Rocksmith was just a minor example

Personally I think between the two you should get another D2X. I was seriously disappointed with my Solo.

Cheers for the explanations. So if I understand right there is a noticeable delay between strumming the string(s) and the sound coming out of the speakers? Which I imageine would be quite iritating.
Correct.
Now you can download and use ASIO4ALL which helps improve it, but there is still about 80ms delay which as you say is highly noticeable.
LOL I should have just got another D2X, the only thing I like about this card is the Dolby Home theater settings, SPDIF output looks like an after thought, hardly any options, you can't even select how many speakers your using, on the D2X for music i changed it to 2 channels, for games i set it to 6 channels (with DTS Connect)
The Sound quality is good but for music I think the D2X was better, tried both SPDIF and 3.5mm, surprisingly SPDIF sounded a bit better....
Going to try out some games and decide what do to.
