Asus xonar D2x or Creative Sound blaster X-Fi titanium HD

I've just had to pull my creative card as once again the drivers clapped out and using on board with Sennheiser PC350's and Logitech Z5500's and there is a difference, but if you can don't go creative their cards are great-their drivers are shit. I've gone thru 3 different types of creative cards and had the same issues with all of them.

currently using an Asus D2x. i'm really, really happy with that one. had my share of creative cards in the past two decades. actually the asus is only my second card not to be from creative. had a load of driver problems with numerous creative cards. some died, others are still operational somewhere. but, in my opinion, games support the X-fi chips so much better. personally, i think that overall build and sound quality of the D2x is way better than any X-fi based card. got it hooked up (toslink) to an onkyo receiver in combination with canton speakers (just stereo, that's fine for me) - awesome. will probably be one of the few parts in my rig surviving the transition to socket 2011 in Q4 '11 or Q1 '12.

have fun!

What motherboard are you using?

I have seen that on some motherboards, when you install the sound card in the top pci x1 slot, the heatsink on the motherboard gets in the way. I have this issue with my rampage II extreme, the x-fi card that included with mobo fits fine as its only about 5 or 6cm in length, but if i were to install a normal, full size sound card like the titanium or xonar that i would have to bend or even break off a full row of fins on the rampage II's heat sinks to get the cards to fit

But i think sound card's that have the pcie x1 slot can also be used in x16 slots or have you ran out of them sue to graphics or expansion cards?

Go for Asus D2X mate!

Agreed, I've had mine for a while now and its the best card I've ever owned. I had the X-FI Titanium before the D2X and I thought that was good, apart from the driver/software issues, the D2X blows the X-FI away imho, the drivers are much much better, not had a single problem.
