Hi, finally got my new pc working finished water cooling it all tried running a few games and both of the 2 Strix GTX 1080 have insane coil whine, the noise fills the room its deafening.

Can't believe these cost £700 each and they have such bad coil whine I bought them due t everyone saying Asus cards didn't have coil whine due to better components I'm calling BS on that one. my HD7970's only had coil whine at high FPS these do it at 60fps.

Basically anything with capacitors has coil whine. It can be reduced by using higher quality materials and etc, but it may still have some. The fact you got 2 cards both with coil whine means you got unlucky and they both were probably from the same batch of cards that went out. If you bought 2 more say in a month, chances are they wouldn't have it. Really just depends. Manufacture defects always happen no matter the costs of the product. Just because it's super expensive doesn't mean it'll be problem free.

Best thing to do is return them and exchange for new ones. Or if you want to wait for a different batch, return for refund then wait a while till you buy another pair.

Next time I would advice testing your cards before putting water blocks on them. Manually set the fans so low they're inaudible, and test with a few games that are known to produce coil whine in cards like: Crysis series and Elite: Dangerous.

There is no such thing as a card that doesnt have coil whine. It just varies in how loud it is. Higher quality caps will reduce whine, but it will always be there.

Although im finding it hard to believe that its deafening?

My Titan X has coil whine but I'm pretty convinced it is being caused by my Corsair PSU.

I did some reading about and it seems that certain sound cards in the same system on a Corsair PSU can cause coil whine. Are you running a sound card?

Sometimes it's not just the GPUs that cause it. It can also happen with using a certain type of PSU.

I know full well everything will have coil whine, both my HD7970 had coil whine but only really noticeable in high fps.

Both these cards I can hear above the game volume when capped at 30fps my HD7970 were inaudible at 30 fps, these 2 cards seem to have extreme coil whine just when at 100% load regardless of FPS.

here is a video much louder than it sounds on camera turn volume up till it fills the room and that's about how loud it really is.

Am returning them for a refund bought 2 new cards and will test them.

I also did test that they were working before water cooling them but thought it might have just been the benchmark I was using next time I will test with some actual games.

Considering its about £80 more than most other cards and Asus boast about their solid caps I'm very surprised at how loud it is.
