ASUS Sabretooth P67A cooling

I'm just finalising a new build and have decided on the ASUS Sabretooth P67A mobo. The review states that a downward facing CPU fan is required to help cool the board. Is this really neccessary? What experience have you guys had with CPU coolers on this board? Looking to clock a 2500k to 4.8Ghz, so need a decent cooler. Was set for the Noctua NH-D14....but now?

if you have a side panel fan it'll do the same otherwise good airflow should be fine. They say that just because of the thermal armor on it.

I've been looking at the NH-C14 instead of the NH-D14. Maybe that would be a good compromise. Seems to have very similar cooling results. Although ram height may start to be an issue. Thinking about it, doesn't the NH-D14 have ram height issues anyway? This mobo 'armour' seems to have caused an issue rather than resolved one.

Just for note, this will be going into a Fractal Arc midi. I could install a side panel fan

although due to dog hair/dust, i'd have to dust filter it. Hmm, will a 140mm fan fit on the side panel of the arc with a NH-D14 installed as well? Looks like it will, due to the extra width in the Arc
