Have tried the following with no joy.

CMOS jumper
Remove battery for over an hour
bios flashback with 2 different flash drives
Barebones out of case test with only CPU and one stick of ram.

Any help would be great, thnx

So you can access the bios right? can you get into the bios and check the cpu temperature, maybe its overheating.

Are the ram in the correct slots?
Are all the power connections connected for the cpu and motherboard?

No, it powers on for 2 seconds and dies so it doesn't get to the bios. All connections have been checked and ram is in the correct slot

are you sure that your cpu cooler is seated properly? I'm sorry for asking all these questions but you didn't provide enough info :)

It may seem to work fine, but can you check it on another pc? I once had a pc randomly shut down in the middle of doing anything. Turned out to be a faulty Corsair psu, they are good but they aren't perfect mate, double checking is never a sin.

Haven't got another pc but I shorted the green and black wires and it powered a Molex led strip so I assumed it was ok?

No, nothing like that. I turned it on this morning and it wouldn't post?

Usually the usb flashback works but that doesn't do anything either?

i tried again this morning and it went to bios!? i managed to update the bios and I'm up and running again. thank you oc3d, maniac and feronix for taking the time to help me out! all the best, rick...
