ASUS Sabertooh 990FX R2 - PCIEx16_1 not working

Hello all,

In need of a bit of advise if possible, I have an ASUS Sabertooth 990FX R2 mobo with an FX8350.

If I put my 7870 (joker card) in PCIEx16_1 the system does not detect the card.

If I put my 7870 in PCIEx16_2 the system does not detect the card.

If I put my 7870 in PCIEx16_3 it works, but very unstable. If I try to do anything graphic intensive the system crashes (i.e run a game via steam)

All the latest drivers/chipset/bios in place and running.

Am I missing something simple?

Gonna call ASUS in the morning but thought I would tap into this wondfull well of info before bed. Any help, advise or a joke to lift my mood is welcomed.

Cheers

Upham

EXTRA INFO:
PSU = 750w
CPU & RAM have all been removed and re-seated
7870 tested in another rig, works fine

Thank you for the extremely fast response!

No other card available to test in this rig unfortunately however I have tested the 7870 in my old rig (A8-3870) and it works fine.

I dont think that the mobo is broken. And by that i mean that is is very unlikely that physicaly all the pci slots dont work properly because they have no/bad connection. That sounds like a pci controller issue, but i have absolute no idea if and how you might be able to fix that.

Thank you very much for your input bud, I am of the same opinion, I will be sure to report back here what I find :)

i had that mobo with a 4170, awesome board, i had to re-start my pc with the hdmi pluged it and after a few times it just started working

Hey guys thought I would leave an update... Turns out it was the 7870.

I removed the 7870 and tried it in my other rig again and this time it didn't work.
Took the GPU with me to work, tested it on a pc there and again it didn't work...

so sent it back, got a new one but this one also does not work...

Im going to close this thread now and start a new one over on the Graphics section. Thank you for your help so far guys :)

The third PCIE slot is usually the 4x lane, hence why it may be unstable. It simply can't get enough bandwidth to be stable I would imagine..

As per your other thread (and please don't make too many as it makes it hard to keep up !) try updating your motherboard's bios.. Also, if the GPU has a bios switch try that also.
