Asus rog swiftt pg278q

Hey guys,

Was wondering if you know any other monitor that is 27", 144Hz and has such a nice display panel such as the ROG Swift. Or is the Swift the only one of it's kind currently?...

I don't really fancy the red led around the monitor stand, that goes well with the ROG theme... as I have black and blue theme on my PC. And having red will sort of get rid of that in my opinion to be honest :/

I highly doubt there is, but if you do know... then feel free to post.

And for those of you who has it, how do you find it, how is it for you and so on?...
As I've had a quick run of it in a store and it looked amazing in comparison to, for example ASUS VG278HE.

Or do you perhaps know any news that something similar is coming soon or so?...

Thanks guys,
Chrazey

This isn't Gsync but good specs AOC G2770PQU 27in Widescreen 144Hz LED Gaming Monitor or this BenQ XL2730Z 27in LED 144Hz FreeSync Gaming Monitor or even this AOC G2460PG (G-SYNC 144Hz) 24" 1ms Full-HD Gaming Monitor there is also supposed to be an Acer Gsync monitor too but I can say the Swift is really nice and you can turn off the red at the bottom of the monitor if you don't want it on

Well I'm not that sure about Gsync though, does it really work?, does it take extra horses from your GPU?, since I'm running an ASUS GTX 980 Strix.

And I will look into those examples, thanks for those! :)

And lastly... are you serious dude?, you can turn off the red led at the bottom of the monitor?
I'm guessing the red power button can't be changed to blue? :p

The AOC G2770PQU is really nice indeed, shame it's an 27" 1920x1080 and not 1440p :/ ... otherwise it would've been nice :)

im sure theres a 1440p 144hz ips gsync screen out (or just coming out) by acer

That is the spec I want for my next monitor but i've had bad experiences with Acer's quality in the past which is leaving me skeptical :/

I just wish Asus would've made a 1440p IPS G-Sync monitor instead of jumping to 4k

Yeah, its called the Acer XB270HU. It was supposed to be out in March so its probably going to be in shops any day now.

k
They've deffo improved. I'd say they're on par with Asus now in terms of build quality.
Also Asus are making an IPS 1440p 120hz screen, the "Asus MG279Q WQHD"

Nice one Barnsley! I'll look into that

The Rog Swift just looks awesome as far as monitors go, but I am a big Asus fan in general so may be a little bias.

What's the difference between ASUS ROG SWIFT TN panel and an IPS panel?...

Well the Swift is a TN 144Hz G-Sync 2560x1440 with a 1Ms response time panel.

Currently Asus are planning on releasing a 2560x1440 120 or 144Hz IPS panel later this year but with no G-Sync.

TN has slightly worse viewing angles and colour reproduction and IPS has amazing viewing angles, Colour reproduction but a much slower response time, Usually in the 5Ms range compared to TN's 1Ms one of the reasons why TN is a favourite among competitive gamers.

Personally I'd take a 144Hz 1Ms TN over an IPS any day of the week due to loving fast panels and to be honest in reality the difference in colour really isn't all that much when you configure the TN panel and the viewing angle isn't a big deal anyway because you're sat right in front of it anyway ^_^

If Asus can come out with an IPS 144Hz 2560x1440 1Ms G-Sync panel then I'll be all over it but until then I'll stick with my TN ^_^

Enough said ^_^...

Well one could also add that TN panels have nicer deeper blacks and IPS has much cleaner brighter whites. If it's purely for gaming then TN is superior and that's clearly why Asus went with it for their ROG model.

If you want an all rounder then the Swift is definitely good enough but if colour critical work comes Into it then you will obviously want to go IPS. I have one of each now and the ROG graces my main desk. Having said that I've gamed all weekend on my £250 IPS Dell Ultrasharp 25 and it looked great. In the past I've had some cheap TN's though and they were awful.

For the record, the 5ms response is only really noticible if you play a butt tonne of high FPS reflex shooters.

I personally prefer IPS panels over TN as I don't play as much twitch shooters as I used to. There is a low response rate IPS panel, its just not hit monitors yet for reasons I'm not aware of.

Probably a stupid question, but if I would to buy it and since I only have an 6950 2GB, can I still run games at 1080p on it?... Untill I get something more powerful in terms of graphics card for 1440p?...

1080p will look a bit funny though compared to 1440p, but will/does it work though?... such as Battlefield?...

Should be fine of you just set 1080p in the game settings. You could even set it to 720p if you wanted ;)

Well it's either the Swift or the ASUS MG279Q for me... not sure on which one to get really, as not sure what the 390X will bring to the table and therefore not sure what I'll get in terms of GPU in the future.... but I'm leaning towards the 980Ti or Titan X though, rather than the 390X.

What do you guys say etc?...

Wait to see what the 390X brings as it's meant to be coming out in June which is only a few weeks away :)

I want to add my two cents on this one since I know these monitors very well after having used them extensively (been using the acer XB270HU continuously for the last two weeks, just aquired the asus MG279q as well, swift for a few months prior)

first the swift -
Pros -
- Excellent build quality, premium solid feel, show stopper looks
- very Thin Bezels
- 1 ms response time
- Gsync just works and works very well
- Acceptably vibrant colors for a TN panel though cant compare to IPs
- Acceptably good viewing angles for a TN panel (better than any other TN panel I've used)

cons -
- price. for a TN, this is very expensive. the Acer is similarly priced and its IPs
- Colors and Viewing angles though good, is still TN. You wont even care if this is the only monitor you own, but when you place it next to a high end IPs, you will see the difference
- AG coating - its more matte than what I would consider pleasant. It can be lighter

Acer xb270hu -
Pros -
- Price. For IPS 144hz, 1440p gsync, it costs more or less similar to the swift which is a TN panel. wow!
- Colors - IPS colors and are amazing. nothing more to say
- Viewing angles - IPS viewing angles. sit anywhere
- AG coating - its lighter than the swift and the colours "POP" and are vibrant because of it.
- extreamely low input lag - its lesser than the swift.

cons -
- Build quality. Looks "cheaper" compared to the swift
- 4 ms response time - more than the swift but I couldnt notice any difference
- Thicker uglier Bezels

Asus MG279q
- has the same pros and cons as the Acer above (except the bezels), but its freesync and my first impressions are that it looks a bit better built - though still doesnt feel as premium as the rog swift.

Conclusion -

I like the acer xb270hu the best even with its flimsier build quality. The panel on it feels like an IPS version of the swift. Now on paper it might have the 4-5 ms response time as opposed to the swifts 1ms, but coupled with an even lower input lag, 144 hz and gsync, I simply didnt notice any thing different on the acer from the swift as far as responsiveness is concerned.
Then again, I'm not a champion gamer and I dont compete in professional tournaments. Those guys "might" see some difference. But my eyes arent that good.
The Asus Mg279q is an excellent option but regarding freesync itself - I dont feen that comfortable plunging into it right now because atleast at this moment, Gsysc looks to be a better functioning technology. Freesync seems to only support single GPUs and seems to have a cretain ghosting problem. This could be fixed in a future driver update but who knows when, considering AMD loves to delay everything? If the ghosting issue and the crossfire issue is fixed, then do consider the MG279q as well since the panel on it looks to be the exact same as found on the Acer.

if the rumours are true, then the 390x is a true beast that rivals the titan x and that too at a much lower pricepoint. However, as a long term amd user I have to say a couple of things
1. I have no clue which imbecile runs that company. whoever it is, they are bent on razing the old ATI division to the ground. I mean, febraury when the gtx 970s had the 3.5 gb vram fiasco was the perfect time to release the fabled 390x. they didnt. they prefer to wait and release the card in june. who knows what reason they'll find then to further delay the card?
The market share Nvidia - AMD for discrete gpu was 60 - 40 ish three years ago. Now its 76 - 24 percent. even then these pea brains at amd want to wait with their newest and greatest tech??

2. Going by the above point, if there is a driver issue with lets say Freesync (since that thing is very driver based), can you trust AMD to bring out a fix in time and not "wait" till june to do it? Do they even take the discrete PC graphics market seriously anymore? I'm not that confident in them. if you are, feel free to buy the freesync version

with all that rant, I have to still say - as a single gpu, the 390x > rumoured 980ti > titan x.

I just hopped on the G-Sync wagon myself as my reasoning is this.

A dedicated scaler chip that has no issues vs Freesync that uses the DP standard which has ghosting and no guarantee that it will be fixed this side of the millennium ^_^
