Asus P5W DH + Retail Conroe BIOS Issues

As many of you know, there is a slight problem when using the Asus P5W DH with a retail conroe.

Overclock3D have spoken to Asus, and as a result have created our very own P5W BIOS flashing boot CD-ROM.

Read about it here

Get the disk here

There is a bios due out soon as well, offically from asus, to make these boards compatible from what a contact told me the other night.

Thats the BIOS on this boot-cd mate - it flashes the P5W for full compatability.

There is a beta bios floating around i believe that adds some extra features, like a DFI style BIOS saving profile thingy.

Hi guys !

I don't know if I'm the only one to have this problem, but I can't download the whole file. The download stops at 1.4Mo and that's all...

Is the link broken ?

Interesting, download is working fine here. Try clearing your cache perhaps?

Hi,

Really good news. I bought the board with the old bios version. And were i bought it they said well we can flash it for you, but there is always a certain risk. And for that amount of money i thought..... my question when i boot with that cd is it 100% save?? And can i also make an boot dvd?? Sorry if this sounds stupid, but well im a newbie to hardware!

Thanks very much in advance!

I've downloaded the zipped file but after opening with WinRAR I found that the folder is empty.

Anybody downloaded successfully this file.

Thanks.

Hi,

Yes the disk is 100% safe - it uses exactly the same BIOS file as used by XS in their 'Making the P5W Conroe Ready' thread.

As for burning it to a DVD - it may be possible depending on what CD-Writing software you use. If not, i may be able to create a DVD version.

So thats the 0701 of 0901 bios file? Cause i read that there is again a newer bios. But i will try to burn it on dvd, and on cd, lets see if it works. My E6600 will be here in a few weeks so. Its a bummer today one of my fav hardware stores has it in store, the E6600. But i made a deal with another store so haha. Thanks for the help i really appreciate it.

If i remember rightly its the 0701 bios (i'll double check tho). The version on the disk should be enough to get the board fully up and running, and if you want to flash to the latest BIOS after that, then of course you can.

But flashing is dangerous right?? I once flashed a mobo and it worked. But the store were i bought the p5w dh d said that there is a risk in destroying youre mobo, and it cost me 224 euros, so i dont want to take to many risks.

Thanks man for the help

Pfft flashing is risky if you don't have a stable system. I've NEVER had a flashing problem using winflash

If it screws it up then you can buy a new BIOS chip from Asus for £10ish

Oke thanks for the info. Only i dont now if its stable, have to put it together first, thanks for the bioschip tip!! And before i can put it together ill have to wait for de 6600. Which is allready in some stores here in the Netherlands.

Yeah i unzipped it, and there is a image in it, so its not empty after i downloaded it.

Could you be so kind to send me this image, because I don't success to obtain it.

Thanks.

Adam

As Kemp stated you can't mess up your board if the flaws goes bad, you'll just have to hot flash or buy a new CMOS/BIOS chip from the manufacturer, and they're dirt cheap.

Bios number?

Is there any way to tell which bios you have by looking at the label on the bios chip?

Looking at mine it says.....

WDH07

0502

3555

F8 07

Thanks for your help :)
