Asus P5W DH + Retail Conroe BIOS Issues

Hi there,

Youre bios version is 0502, thats the older version. You have to have version 0702 to get it to work, but the disc here should work. Hope that someone tried it out allready??

Ok, so when I get my Core 2 Duo E6600 hopefully by next week, all I have to do is slap the chip onto my PW5 DH board and boot it up with this bios update cd and everything will be fine? Is that correct?

Thoeretically Yep :)

I will have the E6600 tomorrow, and i really hope it will work. If it wont work, the store were i bought it wont flash it. But well they only want to flash if i bought the intel chip there, but i didnt. Hope it will work. But this disc you made, is with the help of asus right??

So there is a difference between retail conroes and boxed? I have 0402 pfff. I post alot here but i just hope it works. I mean the error message and all.

Thanks for all that help.

Kind regards,

Donnie

Retail = boxed. OEM = loose. So no, there is no difference between retail and boxed, because they're the same thing :)

Okidoki, thanks man. Well that leaves me then with an mobo that has 0402 in it, and i read on alot of forums that conroe wont boot, so no error message. Ill guess i have to go to a store and get it flashed. If that goes wrong asus can send me a new bioschip. But were can i ask that, there site is so slow, and for the netherlands the email link etc doenst work. If only the store clerks told me that its an old bios, i would have waited till the newest one was in store, but no, they did not tell me, they did not even now. They did not even now were i found the bios version. Well on the sticker morron haha.

I'd go buy a BIOS chip from Asus

Failing that ring them up and complain like hell and they should send you a new one :)

You could of course get a skt 775 Celeron and flash it yourself :)

I emailed them. Hope they respond soon. I cant find a phonenumber. The only phonenumber available is for asus notebooks. But thanks for the kind help!!

Some recent info...................hope this helps someone...........

Just got off the phone with Asus tech support. It is 9:00AM Aug 4th as I type this........................

The tech told me if I am using the E6600 processor then I need at least bios version 0801 for it to post properly.

The good news is, they are sending me the new bios chip under warranty flashed with 0801 for FREE! I did an upgrade to next day air so as to get it here quicker. Will have to pay for the next day air but if you choose regular ground then they pay the shipping.

Just give tech support a call and there will be no need to worry about flashing yourself in order to get things up and running!

Phone number to tech support is 1-502-995-0883.

In my opinion at least..................this experience with Asus tech support has to rank as perfect! Very knowlegable, friendly and helpful!

As I said..................hope this helps?

Thats a great help. I emailed them, i cant reach them from here, cause im in Holland. I have mailed technical support and asked for a new chip! Is the chip bolted to the mainboard or can i get it out simple and put a new one simply in??

Thankssss

Possible to post elsewhere?

I don't have an FDD in my newly build PC and want to keep it that way if possible, so this was an ideal solution for me.

Unfortunately I'm also getting the downloading so far then stopping problem; both at home and work and in Opera, IE and Firefox.

Help?

Thanks for that. Unfortunately it appears to have killed my PC. :\

It burned fine, booted fine, flashed fine, said to reboot. Rebooted ok showed the boot screen, hit TAB to see the post and that was it. It showed the new bios number but then locked and now on boot up it doesn't make the keyboard lights blink or the monitor go on.

I've tried the discon power, remove battery, flip (damn... memory failed me) "thingie" to clear CMOS for 20s or so, then flip back, put battery back in and try again and no joy.

So does anyone have a way ahead for me here or am I just going to have to contact Asus Australia (or whoever) and ask for a new bios?

Yeah. It might also be worth using a value stick of DDR2 with loose timings to boot (if you have one), then setting the timings for your RAM when in the BIOS
