ASUS P5N-E Sli BIOS

I have been getting BSOD on first boot for quite a while now using a year old BIOS (0401). I've got my E6600 stable on air at 3.5ghz no problem at all.

I decided now would be the time to try and update the BIOS so I downloaded the two latest versions 0703 & 0801.. The latest is only a couple of months old. Anyway I could install either from the BIOS utility as it kept coming up with 'Downgraded ROM file was not suitable for the system'... Ahh perfect.. As if I know what that means.

I decided to risk it and flash from inside windows which actually worked.. Thought I'd broken it at first though as I had to reset the CMOS before it would boot. I couldn't get it to boot into windows at all with the settings that were still saved in there. It turns out that both BIOS's were useless OCers.. It would barely boot into windows at 3.1ghz.. Wouldn't make it at 3.2ghz. Mmmm what a great update there ASUS!!

Why bother wasting time making a BIOS worse? Ok yeah it probably fixes other problems but not mine so I don't care (selfish :D).

At least this time the BIOS flashing utility worked and I could flash back to 0401 and first time it boots straight in nice and stable at 3.5ghz..

We'll see tomorrow whether it still BSODs on first boot.

I think that it was the 6080 that was best... If that exists?

Mines in the cupboard, im pretty sure broken...

I remember you telling me that 0401 was best when i bought it may / june time last year.. not sure if 60whatever was out then though.

Ok just checked and its:

Version 0608 2007/06/29 update

Not that I can be arsed to do it again!! I'll be getting a new mobo, gfx and cpu in May from Vegas.

Yep. Had a ton of trouble with this board and a duff set of pats, and the only bios' that worked well for me were them 2.

Prob a good idea to stick with what works:)
