i have been waiting for price drops on the 7850 range, but it doesntseem to happen. i cant find a review comparing the asus dcu2 7850 against the saphire 7850, they are similar cost. i pref the look of the dcu2 cooler. but i dont know what is the coolest and quietest

yeah the 78xx from the start were under priced, the 79xx and 77xx were droped with the incoming of the 680, now we are waiting for 7990 since the 690 is out.

id personally go with dcuII as it does actually have better cooling performance, so you can oc more etc. also i like to keep everything within colour scheme so the red pcb works for me :] but some intel rigs use blue so sapphire would look better there.

its upto persnall preference really, ive never had any problems with asus cards, and sapphire is more of a cheap brand to me

Asus has more robust overclocking features and utilities than Sapphire do, I've used Trixx and while it's okay it's not the most well crafted tool in the box.

hmm, thanks for your reply's. my colour scheme is knida nutral atm with everything black with white lighting, but the dcu does look nicer, however, prob best to wait for the 660 to be released just incase its insane or dirt cheap (yeah right) if nothing else it will help the amd prices i hope

Did you consider getting yourself GTX 570? I don't mean to create offtopic here, but you can get yourself one for just under 200 pounds, and they perform similarly, it only depends which games you are going to play.

Ah-sue-s.

Really irritates me when it's pronounced like that whether right or wrong it sounds pants.

The name Asus comes from Pagasus, which is why Asus recently got rid of an OEM called Pegatron.

Ay-suss or a-suss is the correct pronunciation, no idea where AEYSHOOSHK and all it's varients came from, that's the sound of a kid coming out the bottom of a water tunnel at a theme park, not a hardware manufacturer.

I did consider the 570 at one point, but it is not very eco friendly compared to the 7850. about £35 more a year to power for the same kinda performance, and the fact that the amd card has 2gb of ram. i only play at 1680x1050 at the mo, but i want a card a wont have to worry about my next monitor choice. im sure 1gb is fine and will be for a long time, but, for the same money. may as well have 2gb!

hmm, the tripple slot asus 570 would look pretty sweet thru my window tho, btw. i have no intention of ever going dual gpu's so im not bothered about that

Take into account the fact that the dcu II cooler extends over the pcb of the card. It's also quite loud. I'd say the Sapphire overclocks slightly lower than the asus but remains quieter and cooler.

loud? the review i have read say it is inaudible, also the overhang is fine by me. it will just send the hot air directly up to the roof fans,

as an owner of dual 7970's with DCU2's I find they are very quiet. The whole point of it is to be quiet and cool. lol.

does anyone know of any supplier with stock on the xfx 7850 dd? idealy the black edition, i think it looks nicer than the asus and saphire cards, but i do like the look of the msi twin frozr,

Personally I don't like the look of the 7850 dcuII. The cooler is massively longer than the pcb which I don't like the look of tbh. I'd recommend the MSI twin frozr III 7850, it stays really cool and is advertised as being only 27db under load.

I'm actually also trying to decide on one of the 7850 cards, its between XFX 7850 Black Edition DD (208.54), XFX 7850 DD (£194.14), MSI 7850 Twin Frozr III (£179.74) and MSI 7850 Power Edition (£208.54). I prefer the looks of XFX cards, but I heard a lot of good and bad things about the company. And I do not know whether its worth taking the black edition over the standard one, as the only different thing is the bumped up speeds and voltage on the black edition. Does anybody know if they cherry pick the chips for the black edition ones? Also the cooling on MSI Power Edition is superior to Twin Frozr III, but I do not know whether the price increase justifies it. Any ideas?

i believe they do cherry pick, but i still have not upgraded, im am now thinking about getting the 560ti 2gb edition, some people say if you get an amd card xfx is the better brand to use as they only use amd,
