ASUS officially unveil Trinity, their 3 core GFX card

Great news! :D I like the idea of being able to upgrade the MXM-modules for newer ones. Maybe we'll be seing more of these solutions in the future? I didn't read the press article yet, but did it say anything about the rad and pump being included in the deal?

Its all part of that big lump on the end of the hoses... It takes up two 5.25" drive bays.

its a shame someone doesnt bring out a board, for a graphics card, where you can upgrade the gpu and memory, like you can a motherboard...

you'd have to have differnt ones for AMD and Nividia...different sockets etc, and they can only take a certain type of ram...etc etc...but it would be a good idea imo :)

i dont think it would work out to be so cost effective, once you've factored in the extra costs of making things plug and play ect.

Just for clarification:

This product will not be released as a retail product and is purely an engineering sample.

It is however, very shiny. xD

ya I think that multi-gpu will be the better route to go over that of SLI and XFire as well killing off PCI slots for graphics cards sucks >_< like for me I have a sound card, capture card, wireless card that I like to use. I mean I know boards are starting to come with wi-fi and better audio but ya... also I kinda wish ATI would bring back their All-In-Wonder cards again would make things easier on the HTPC side of things for people that use SFF cases such as myself ^_^

But ya this card is a great idea and although its just a sample I bet a version of it will hit the market at some time.

Innovative but expensive springs to mind.

No idea what it costs but I'll bet it's more than Asus 8800GTS 512MB (which we hear is already being phased out by Nvidia after only a few months on the market).

Which incidentally benchmarks above the trinity in 3DMARK06 at 11856...no overclocking what so ever.

Yet another example of ATI being creative but falling by the wayside due to lack of new technology.

Nvidia bulldozer just keeps on rolling...reminds me a bit of Intel Vs. AMD.

Oh that's right AMD owns ATI now...is it just a coincidence?

ps. how much power does it use? I know the HD3870x2 is way over the top (Approx 350W+) so upgrading the Trinity from 3850 to 3870 might require a second mortgage to afford the power bills!:nono:

Bilko out.

Ahhhh nice first post :D welcome to the forum by the way...

Yeah the power consumption my not be perfect but as stated it is just a concept with a few actual products floating around.. Its in all probability never going to make the mainstream so power isn't so much an issue. I get your point though so fair enough.

They are just showing what can be done and also showing a different way of thinking which is always good.

I expect it'll still be much cheaper then the GX2. Less then £300 I would of thought???

Any prices come up yet?

Does anybody remember this card? That was also proof of concept back in the middle of 2007...now look at where GPU's are going.
I remember that card, i actualy wanted one knowing how tankish my X1900XTX was.

I guess my post was ignored...

It's never going to be released as a retail product and is purely an engineering sample.

As for the comments about its performance in 3dmark06...it scores just under 18k.

Facts please ^^

Dude... Facts are reported directly from the ASUS press release??

Link

As had been said in all the articles.. It wasn't likely to hit retail.

Anyway we should see some results for ourselves as the reviewers here will hopefully be getting one :)
