hello,

I'm about to build a 1155 rig with a 2500k, I just wanted to know what's a better choice out of the;

ASUS P8Z68 Deluxe Gen 3

ASUS P8Z68 Pro Gen 3

or am I being a fool and should pick a different board?

oh I will most likely to be running two graphics card, 2-3 hard drive, 2500k, and I'm keeping it air cooled.

From what I can see the main difference is that rear I/O:-

Deluxe

------

1 x PS/2 keyboard/mouse combo port(s)

1 x Bluetooth module(s)

1 x eSATA 3Gb/s

1 x Power eSATA 3Gb/s

1 x IEEE 1394a

2 x LAN (RJ45) port(s)

2 x USB 3.0

8 x USB 2.0

1 x Coaxial S/PDIF out

1 x Optical S/PDIF out

6 x Audio jack(s)

1 x Clear CMOS button(s)

Pro

---

1 x Bluetooth module(s)

1 x DVI

1 x D-Sub

1 x HDMI

1 x eSATA 3Gb/s

1 x LAN (RJ45) port(s)

2 x USB 3.0

6 x USB 2.0

1 x Optical S/PDIF out

6 x Audio jack(s)

Other than that the differences look quite minor. Both are good boards though.

Do you need the extra connectors it offers? Also, I beleive the Deluxe offers more power phases than the V-pro. This means that the Deluxe is better suited for overclocking. Is the Deluxe the better board? Well yeah, but if you don't need the extra features it offers, then you might aswell go with the V-pro and save yourself a little money.

Edit: Actually, just found an overview of the mobo's. Turns out the power phases are the same. My bad!

I would go with the pro gen3. They both have same power phase (16). I have built a system with the pro MB and it is very good and it oc well also. The usb 3.0 box you get with the deluxe is nice, but the cable seems so incredible short. Better to buy a usb 3.0 hub or an usb 3.0 extension cable if this is important issue for you.
