ASUS Maximus III Formula Motherboard Gets Pixelised

Why change a winning look?:D Looking at my P6T, I am hearing the 'must buy nice shiny new things' devil screaming in my head:D I must resist!!

I don't mind it, but it's hardly a Maximus is it.

I was thinking the same. The original Maximus (which I still own and love) has yet to be beaten by version II or III.

And someone tell me why it doesn't have triple channel? :(

I like it. Especially the fact that there is a fan on the VRM cooler. The only problem I see is if that fan dies what do you do? Also why do you guys see tripple channell is neccesary? As far as I know it makes very little difference to dual channell?

I cant wait to see the benchmark comparison between P55 / i5 and X58 / i7. The i7 setup is expensive but has come down in price and if the i5 CPU i any bit near as good I might buy an i5 CPU but if it isnt near as good I will go i7 920 and oc as far as possible on air for 24/7.

Well, since it is a "high-end" board I was expecting triple channel. On paper it looks better in reality it is probably unnoticeable.

Doesn't appear as anything special. No mention of SATA3 or USB3. Dual channel I think is down to the chipset, although that could be worked around (so could quad channel, but they'll want to make more money off u b4 releasing anything like that).

Single eth0, and something I never though of b4 - a different socket to i7 ? That an excellent coope from Intel. Introduce misc grounding pins to make the difference and seperate the bios so they can't work together. Making this latest generation a dual tier.

Unfortunate thing I'm thinking of is that as i5 is pushed forward, less effort will be made on i7, with mobos becoming less available over quicker time. It's kind of a slap in the face imo. Whereas u buy an AMD and u got options all over the place.

Intel have f**ked up in my opinion.

I7 is nothing compared to Core buisness-wise. And personnally I am not really blown away by the performance.

I have been getting very disappointed with recent hardware lately. :(

Same

I'm still running a 8800gt happily and dont see much point in upgrading in the near future

Most of the processors later than the q6600 (mine :)) are generally just looking at lower power consumption and little tweaks

i like the colours on this board tho

And more MHz too:D The Q6600 was a fine chip but there are better ones out there now, in terms of raw processing power.

Not a tremendous power is what the guyz are getting at.

Tech advances are a whole lot slower than they used to be. We're not talking K7->K8.

Yeah got to agree when you look at it that way. There doesn't seem to be a massive leap in performance from one gen to the next.

Yea

i mean q6600 and the likes was a great stepup from the c2ds from before

but if i had to pay the gap to upgrade from my q6600 to whatever i wouldnt

but yeh if it was free i'd take it
