Hi,

First of all, my motherboard is an Asus Maximus Extreme and my processor is a Intel Quad 9550. I bought them October 8 2007 and they were Brand new. No used part at all. Since this time, i have the problem described below. Let me tell you that' my english isnt perfect and my grammar isnt the best thing ever.

It is normal that i can't install my operating system with default setting on the motherboard ? I mean when i choose load default setup in my BIOS and then i start installing my OS, it freeze before it ask me the language i'll like to choose. I tried Windows Vista ultimate 64 Bits and Windows Seven ultimate 64 Bits and it freeze all the time before the language screen. The processor is at default at 2.83GHz and i cant do anything. I also tried Linux and no luck, it froze while the installation. I tried every kind of bios available on asus website and no luck at all it still freeze all the time.

Now great thing. i cant install any operating system with default setting but if i'm overclocking my cpu to 3.6GHz, i can install it, i can do everything normally ( i mean like a default setup pc).

Also, 3.6 GHZ is the minimum i must run it, because if i decrease the cpu to like 3.5GHz or Below, i can't install my operating system.

I called the store who sold me the motherboard and the cpu and i asked him what should i do, and he told me ''it totally normal this kind of motherboard and processor is done to be overclock before it can work properly and he told me just put a decent watercooling system in it and you'll be fine. Now that i put a watercooling in it, i still cant install it with default setting. I know there something wrong with something in this clone. Can someone help me out there ? i'm mad, and i getting mad because it cost me more and more everytime.

Firstly, there is something wrong with either the motherboard or your CPU. Secondly, that guy lied to you and you should go talk to him again. Processors aren't sold that don't work. Thirdly, make sure all the cables are connected, the CPU has a good amount TIM on it and the heat sink is on nice and tight. Then check your HDD's are working properly and all those cables are fitted nicely.

If you still have the problem try your motherboard with a different processor, and your processor with a different motherboard to find out which one it is that is giving you the problem.

What PSU do you have by the way? Seems odd that when the CPU has more power going to it that it everything works fine.

The guy already sell me a water cooling system. All the cables are connected correctly. i dont know what is the TIM.

My harddrive is also well connected and my power supply is an Enermax 650 Watts. I dont have another computer to check the motherboard or the cpu and i dont have any friend near me with one. they all have pentium 4 or less than that. I also changed my harddrive just to be sure it wasnt the problem but both harddrive are fine.

TIM is the thermal paste between the Heat sink block and the CPU. It sounds more like a problem with the motherboard. Any chance you can borrow one or get another LGA 775 socket one to test?

You should still talk to the guy, it is not right that you have to overclock the processor for everything to work.

i did it, cant boot normally and cant even access my os, it freeze while loading the Windows 7 Kernel. I also try reinstalling, it freeze before giving the language choice.

what psu you using?? are voltages set correct at default???

make sure your supply the correct voltage to your ddr3, check what your particular ram needs and set it.

it sounds like a instability issue, usually ram voltage to blaim, but maybe running low on your cpu at stock aswell.

up your vcore to see if that sorts it aswell.

bios settings to blame, not hardware by the sounds of it. had a maximus extreme too.

I'm using an Enermax 650 Watts. I'll check for the vcore as soon i know how to check it.

its all in the bios.

access it before it boots your os.

voltages are under 'pc health status' probably

p.s. your psu is fine btw, pretty sure your rails are rock solid.

Dram is at 1.680 and when i bought it i remember on the cover it was mark dont put the voltage over 1.69.

I'll leave for the day i'll be back topnight i'll receive your msg and i'll answer it tomorrow. Thanks for the help !
