Asus matrix 5870 and other hard/software problems

Hi there folks!

A short introduction:

My name is Joakim and i live in Denmark. I'm 16 years old and there is nothing i hate more, than when a pc can't keep up.

I've had a pc for almost as long as i can remember, and have always been interrested in all the technology behind.

Because of this, I like to tweak alot and see what does what.

So a year back i got tired of my slow ass laptop and i set out on the quest for the tower of power.

And here's what I got:

Specs:

Motherboard: Asus rampage III Extreme

CPU: Intel i7 930 2.8ghz (OC 3.2)(watercooled)

Graphics Card: Asus Matrix 5870 Platinium (2gbDDR5)

RAM: Corsair Dominator GT 2000MHz (3x2gb)(air cooled)

HDD: Green caviar 1tb 5200Rpm

Power supply: Corsair TX650w

OS: Windows 7 64bit

Anti-virus: Norton 360

So actually i started out with this graphics card: XFX Radeon HD 5830

But it didn't satisfied me, so i upgraded to the asus one.

Lets get down to bussiness!

The general reason i made this topic was because im having problems keeping my pc in an acceptable state.

FX: When i first got my pc. It ran like a dream, it was the best thing i've ever done with money. But after a month with the ASUS Matrix, it went downwards.

It got slower, FX: I could run GTA IV smooth 40 FPS when i first got the card, after a month it dropped to about 25-30.

Anyways. I ran some scans, and cleared out my register and stuff. and it got a little better. But since then its been horrible. It's slow on start ups. I can barely run GTA IV anymore.. we are talking 5-8 FPS. and thats on 1080P and with high shadows. As I ran it once.

I've been struggeling getting it to work proberly. I even had to reset my pc once as it got so f*cked up i couldnt even log on windows.

a few months backs it started crashing regulary, and still does it. Suddenly my screen would get all pixelated, and my graphics driver would crash.

I have literally tried everything. I have tried to update drivers, delete and reinstall. I have tried over 40 different programs atleast to help me scan for driver faults and so on.

FX: Advanced system care 3-5 by iObit and Driver Scanner by Uniblue.

It's like no matter what i do, it doesnt get any better.. infact, it just gets worse, and worse, and worse.

So i would like to ask you. What can i do in this situation?.. I'm almost ready for anything, exept buying new hardware. Im ready to reset my PC once more. But, i want to make sure, that it doesnt f*ck up before i even turn it on for the "first" time.

I also tried running various norton scans for virus, malware and so on. Nothing. at all... It keeps stating that my PC is protected. Also Norton is making regular backups for me aswell.

So guys. Please, what can i do to not end in this situation? Is there a way i can repair my pc from its current state?. Or would you recommend to reset it, and then what to do to make sure this doesnt happen again?

And just to make sure. I posted it in here, because of two reasons. 1. I find my graphics card the biggest problem. 2. I have no idea where else i should have posted this.

Regards

XzzDSA / Joakim

Have you tried reinstalling windows to see if that would resolve the issue?

And please, don't use Norton for gods sake.

you might want to look into a new hard drive for load times etc, a 5200RPM hard drive is really "slow" now-a-days.

As i mentioned, i reset my pc once before. I totaly whiped my HDD and reinstalled everything. But still find myself and my pc in this situation once again.. :/

I have concidered getting a new hard drive.. would a 7200 RPM be acceptable or should i look into higher speeds? Maybe even an SSD?

but buying stuff aside, the real goal with this post, is that I would really want to understand, how i can have my pc running stable and smooth all the time.. I want to run my pc as efficient as i possibly can.

I want everyone that got some success on having their rig running stable and efficient for a longer period of time to comment. Not just for me, but for all who would ever need a guide or whatever. For not just building your first pc, but also maintaining it proberly. And the last one, I'm still trying to figure out.
