Hey

I'm building a new pc. I want to know if I buy the Asus GTX 590 and NOT overclock it, is it going to blow up in my face?

It's a P67 build so I'm going to have enough issues as is with sata 3 and solid state drives.

I'm not going to be upgrading for a good few years after this, so I kinda need the best I can afford right now.

Thanks

Chris

I'm pretty sure it won't blow up in your face. What kind of psu are you using and I suggest that if you are worried about power issues with your build, get a good high watt psu and think about getting the gpu later.

I dunno maybe I bought into the hype then. After watching that video of the 590 sparking and then dying, I'm a little paranoid.

I've got a B3 board and I've got the Corsair HX1000. Think it'll do the job?

hx1000 will be more than ample for what youve listed so far, the 590 sparking/killing its self was something to do with the drivers sent to reviewers prior to the cards release if i remember right, all should be fixed as of the retail drives and anything newer than them.

the 590 from what i have been seeing has been experiencing some "blowing up." but i have heard it was driver related. But then again the 295 on release had the same issue. You can wait till the 590 is more mature then purchase. get it in about 2 months.

THe card is fine, They were OC'ing on pre-mature drivers. You alrdy stated you are doing no OC'ing, which will get you a very quit single slot solution. Go for it. Make sure you are using a good PSU

Me personally, I think the 590 is overkill unless you have a dual monitor setup. You could run most games maxed out with a 580 if your gaming at 1920.

The issue was fixed literally a couple of days after release if not earlier

This is true, But again "Most Games" For two hundred dollars more you should dish out the extra cash to get a almost duel sli 580s, Which would match them almost in performance. Along with you stated "most games" Meaning if it cant run with all with full AA etc, then future tittles here in a half year - year will be ran at lower resolutions. Its a great single card solution for not that much money. Along the fact of if its a 580 you would have to OC some to get that needed room and allow you to play "Most games" Maxed out at a playable FPS xD,

But of course his money and true to the story a 580 would probably do the job for you. I just find for the performance boost 200 extra dollars when you are alrdy paying 515+ you should just get the 590, with a simple single card solution.
