I have been told that the reference 7970 backplates are not compatible but universal might be, if so are they any you would recommend ?

There are no waterblocks or backplates manufactured for this card at this point.

So a universal waterblock is the only way to go, but to be honest its Fugly !

Honestly i wouldnt even bother to watercool this card. With the universal gpu block you will also need passive heatsinks to cool the VRM's and memory chips which again isn't good looking at all!

If i was in your position, i would sell the Matrix Platinum and get a ref. 680 to be able to watercool it like it should be done!

well, i have to be honest the looks doesnt concern me too much because it will be covered by my case anyway :) i havent bought the card yet but what ive heard/seen from benchmarks is that the card outperforms the 680 2gb and 680 4gb, although watercooling the 680 would be a lot more convenient and better looking :P im not sure i would be getting the same performance

Watercooling = ref cards

Core only means everything else gets hot so you still need a bloody fan. Looks wank and is completely the wrong way to do things for water.

If you want to bodge it youve got the wrong forums mate.

hmmm ok, maybe the 7970 lightning with the EK-FC7970 Lightning water block would be the better option, cheers for the advice
