Assistance overclocking Q6600.

3.6Ghz @ 1.5v

Hi... i'm new to this thread but just thought i'd put my 2 p in.

i have a 680i LT and have had to pump 1.55v through the biosto get 3.6, after vdroop and 100% load it goes down to 1.49, this drop really makes a difference as i've had it from 2.4-3.7ghz and all stable, 3.7 gets abit too hot but is still stable.. you really do have to play with these babies but its well worth the effort. i've had this running for about two weeks now with total stability and never a BSOD. temps get to 56c max, 37c idle.

Tango, what voltages have you upped to get it to run 3.7? Just the Vcore?

Pretty impressive.. seeing as the Nvidia Chipset hates quad overclocking. :)

Welcome to the forum too mate!

Like Ham says 1.5-1.55v is the max safe 24/7 setting before you begin to shorten your processors life.

Jim fried some silicon running 1.6v 24/7.

I haven't played around with my voltages for a while but my q6600 will 3d bench at 4ghz with 1.59v in the bios. I tried a max of 1.7v one day trying to get it higher but I think I hit a fsb wall. I tried 500*8 last night but couldn't get into windows, it would hang when logging in!

Q6600 voltages

I have my voltages as follows for 3.6Ghz (1600x9)

CPU voltage- 1.55

CPU FSB- 1.5

Memory- 2.0 (OCZ ~PC6400 XTC Gold 15-5-5-4 1T @ 800mhz

SPP- 1.4

To get 3.7Ghz i notched up the CPU voltage to 1.585 or something, up 2 more than 1.55 if you know what i mean. this got too hot under OCCT (72c) even with H2o but was stable, its now on 3.6Ghz but i don't leave it on 24/7.

As i said before i really had to play around to get it stable because of the notorious Vdroop, at one point it wasn't even stable at stock with all on auto, OCCT would crash.... also it wasn't untill i installed H2o that i was confident to up the voltage that much because of the heat. I only really game online and overclock this pc so its just a toy, although pretty expensive toy!!!!

First Intel Chip!!

I'd just like to add this is the first Intel chip i've owned as i have always been AMD for about ten years..... All i can say is WOW!!! first Intel Chip i've had and 1.2Ghz overclock from 2.4-3.6Ghz, I've been converted!
