They will probably just change OEMs. Shouldn't be that hard to do. Just take out the AIO unit, and get a new one with some sleeving and put the fan back on.

But honestly, screw asetek. They are almost as bad as Apple/Samsung for suing over every little thing. I really don't see how they can win all these too. How much different can an AIO get? Fan/Rad/Pump/Liquid. only thing that can differ is a pump but a pump is still a pump...

ahhh gotta love paper/court wars!

People need to get a grip, rather than sue and stuff, be like look guys this has happened and in result a patent was infringed, here just pay this and we will put out a statement say its all above board and no one needs to lose millions in retarded cases and stupid lawyer fees

It's not just the Fury cards. Some Gigabyte AIO cards have come under the magnifying glass too.

I can see why Asetek are so peeved. Some one stole their design and start cutting them out. I wouldn't be very happy either.

Maybe I should design my own pump ontop of a CPU block so that I can just make all the $$$$$.

How hard can it be?

Pretty hard, given they are also going after Coolit also.

Cooler Master's first efforts were huge. Pretty much the same as the Raijintek thing.

Need to put this engineering degree of mine to use lol. Maybe once that kickstarted 3D Printer gets here.

A literal OC-3D (Over-Clock ready 3-D Printed)Cooler may be coming. LOL

Asetek's patent only covers how the pump is mounted within the reservoir and block, there are plenty of ways to get around it and still combine the block and pump with some creativity.

The Eisberg like the Kelvin was developed by Alphacool both of which have cunning ways of getting around Asetek's patent, the reason the Eisberg was so big is because the pump is mounted side ways.

JR

AMD failed to cover their arse by going with Cooler Master, that was sued, instead of Asetek, Corsair or even EK in the 1st instance.

Next Gen GPU's should be all air cooled anyways as TDP and power consumption will drop drastically, while performance shall take a major leap.

Nvidia will be able to jack up their prices on the 980Ti without the FuryX around for a while lol!

If Cooler Master got sued for them, and still make them that way, should it not be CM that is responsible and not AMD. The are obviously the manufacturer. AMD just buys them like you and me and puts them on the card. They should not be available for sale.

There CAN ALWAYS be a high wattage part, doesn't matter about efficiency.... Not like they are water cooling the low to mid range parts anyways..

Yeah but it's a bit like handling stolen goods. AMD cards using CM parts that still infringe therefore they're just as liable as if CM badged it up themselves. It stops you from buying a cheap knockoff for example and selling it as your own and then saying we're all good go sue the company we bought it from who in all likelihood is a shell company with no assets.

Asetek will sue AMD - even if it's just to prevent further breaches of their Patent by preventing the sales.
AMD will then have to sue CM for lost revenue, damage to brand etc.

The only winners are the lawyers and it's harsh but you can't blame Asetek.
CM should have had a licence agreement with appropriate royalties payable to Asetek.

edit -

Yep and you're always after more power so we won't just say ok we're good with the 6700k performance for all time lets make it run off a watch battery. (although cool if they did) We'll be after even more power so yes water cooling or equivalent will always be there for top end.

Remember what happen in the US last year you couldn't buy a Fractal Design Kelvin AIO cause of something like this.

I really hate this company as soon as i can stop using my crappy H105 and move to the FD Kelvin the happier i will be.

This type of thing has been happening for centuries. In 1759 James Watt updated the Newcomen steam engine by patenting a separate condenser, which doubled the power output. His monopoly and licensing made him rich & choked innovation for 40 years. Eventually Richard Trevithick produced a high pressure steam engine in 1799, which completely changed everything.

I'm not saying that a pump placement here or a swipe there is quite as revolutionary, but sometimes the greed of an individual or a corporation needs to be weighed against the contribution that invention could make to humanity...

Can someone explain to me how it is patent infringing? If I buy an AIO cooler for my PC, then sell my PC, does that mean I'm infringing on their copyright? What about pre-built PCs with AIO cooling? Surely AMD has paid for the coolers before installing them on the cards, they're not hiding the fact they're made by someone else, so what's the issue? Or am I just being sensible here?

Its the licensing issue. AMD have used these coolers which contain technology that they haven't paid a license to use.
