I just wondered this. If I got a case with a window it would be a Fractal Design R4 Window and if I didn't then is would be a Corsair 500R. I'll put up poll to see what you guys think. Also I plan on having my PC on my desk.

Of course they aren't, but neither are mesh panels/ side panel fans tbh.

Windows are only cool to have when you have a nice clean build and/or proper colour scheme going on inside and you want to be able to (let other people) look at it without removing the side panel :)

this. if you put some time into choosing fitting parts and a clean build, which most guys on here do, go with a window to show off your work.
fans on the side panel are really unnecessary anyways

I guess it all depends how far you want to go. If you've spent money and countless hours on making your rig look nice inside then it's cool to have a window to show off the fruits of your labour.

It does make me laugh when people comment on the basic (yet effective) cable management of my Alienwares tbh. None of them have a window so you'd need some pretty strong OCD illness to care about it.

I could spend money sorting it out but what's the point? the case was never designed to have a window in and chopping a case such as the ALX about to make it look pretty inside isn't something I can be bothered with.

My opinion is that I would rather put the money where it matters. Power and parts.

Totally don't agree. When I built Nfenix (pictured here)

The side fan made a 20c difference to the pair of 295s I had running in it.

The side fan was the only thing that brought the quad SLI into check temps wise, even though I had a 200mm in the front.

Having a fan right in front of your GPUs bringing in cold air from outside the case for them to use is a good idea.

^ Awesome little build there mate.

Personally i like the windows, but i wouldn't choose a case based on if it had a window or not. You can always add a window to a case with some modding if you decided you wanted one.

@AlienALX

Yes, but you're talking about 2 dual-GPU cards. I'm assuming these have the fan in the middle and also exhaust air towards the front of the case like the 590 and 690 do?

Usually, a fan in your side panel is not needed at all ;)

Yeah they were the center fan single PCB.

Amazing what difference I saw just feeding them some air tbh. I guess the fan there also worked to disrupt the hot air supply that was coming out of them too. Hottest temp I saw on the first core on the first card was 64c even with really demanding stuff.

Not necessary.

Depends on what you're going for. My folding rig for example doesn't have a window.
