Arctic Cooling Freezer 64 - is mine loud?

I just got an Arctic cooling Freezer 64 for my s939 cpu. I was expecting complete silence, like the Arctic cooling vga silencer i just fitted, but no, this cooler is actually quite loud... Its about the same as the stock cooler for my Athlon 64 3500+...

Is that how quiet its meant to be or are the bearings in my fan defective in some way?

If anyone has one, comments on how quiet it is/should be would be much appreciated! Thanks!

Llwyds old 939 AC made a bit of noise, But not much. However the one on my cellery system is fairly loud.

PV5150 should be able to tell you as he's currently performing a review on one. ;)

only noise that came from mine was the air being pushed through the small gaps between the fins, absolutely no vibration or bearing noise thanks to AC's clever mounting system + fans

Mine is pretty quite, the only fan I can hear in my case is the graphics cards one.

Have you set it to run at a lower speed with bios or a controller program? I don't think I've ever heard it running at full speed, mine runs constantly at about 1000rpm.

That could be the prob - it appears my motherboard has no speed control, so its running at 2000rpm... i'd imagine it would be much quieter at 1000rpm - i think i'll invest in a fan controller!

Thanks!

The Freezer 64 Pro has the 4 pin molex which allows for PWM (if your motherboard supports it). The one I reviewed here was silent until I disabled PWM and ran it at full tilt, but it is still considerably quieter than other solutions though mate. They rock for the price :yumyum:

XMS can you check your PM's pls :)

Weird - mine didn't come with a 4 pin molex connector... came with a 2 pin motherboard connector - it does do an amazing job of cooling (5 deg C cooler and about same noise as stock at full rpm), but i had got it for the noise reduction rather than the cooling!

I'll have a closer look to see if i missed anything!

Thanks for your help!

yup. mine also is quite loud, i dont mind this as it isnt the loudes fan in my case. if you do want to lower the noise outout of it just turn down the rpm's shoudl effect the cooling of it too much

Yeah, i have a fan controller now - and you can barely hear any of the fans on minimum. £12 well spent on a wireless Thermaltake Xtunner fan controller!

5 deg c rise in temps (case and cpu) but well worth it for the quiet! Still 5 deg c lower than before, as my new case lowered temps by 5 deg as did my new arctic cooling freezer 64 pro!

Just though i would add on here, do any of you actually like a loud computer?..dosnt it make you feel it is really powerful?..

Nope im a silent man here.. although personally i think my Arctic Freezer 64 is "quiet enough" Really noisy machines i find annoying, you cant leave them on over night and you cant hear someone calling you/coming into your room.
