Anyone using Geil One Bh5 Ram?

Had anyone had any experiences with the new Geil One Bh5 ram modules? These ram sound great and are also priced very well.

I want to know how they compare against either the Mushlin Redline XP4000 ut modules and the Ocz pc4000 VX range.

The main thing I would like to know is how they compare when set at the same timmings and HT with the Redlines and VX, are they better or worst?

Also would like to know there max Overclocks.

Cheers peps:)

Hey Geomon,

I'm running a pair of Geil One W BH-5's and they're ok, not stellar overclockers or anything but pretty good for the price. 265MHz @ 3.6v memtest, prime and 3d stable, haven't really tried for any higher as this is my sweet spot. The timings they can run ought to be a little different to Redline and VX with CH-5 sourced chips as BH-5 UTT can run trfc 12 which can be troublesome with CH-5 UTT that normally requires trfc 14, the performance hit is negligible, other than that the timings they can run should be identical. The Geil One's definitely need active cooling though, they run so hot it's scary. I believe that CH-5 based ram scales better with voltage than the BH-5 UTT... I seriously doubt that you'd see much of a gain if any from going for the Geil.

Well they sound v.good to me, With the Ocz VX I am getting 255 @ 2-2-2-6 at 3.43v 24/7 memtest 86 stable.

The Mushkin after 3 days of burning in rose to 265 @ 2-2-2-6 also 100% stable.

The Geil have run at equal or faster speeds to the redlines and VX, do you think they would perform the same as the reds & VX if run with the same speed/timmings?

Yeah the price is the most attractive thing about them, my set was £85 inc vat and shipping, which was the cheapest BH-5 I could find at that time. It was intended as a replacement for my bruv's ram that went bad, but I checked out the clocks I could get with it and decided to hold on to it as my little bruv doesn't need an overclocked rig.

Ultimately if you give them enough voltage I'm pretty certain the Redlines or VX would clock higher as CH-5 scales better, but then again they are significantly dearer so you'd expect that.

its refreshing to still see these Bh5 chips being used.

Not for long though, I read that the winbond IC's are going out of production soon if they haven't already. :(

btw, the 265 I got from my geils is without any burn in at all.

Sweet overclock there - 270 is just around the corner my friend.

Just so people know - the UTT chips used in redline and VX are having issue with the EXPERT board right now (I read somewhere).

Tests are ongoing and I am on an overclocking learning curve with this beast of a board - more to follow in a new thread (soon) so as not to throw this one OFF-TOPIC.

Geil really do seem to be pushing for the number one spot!

They are already testing modules at

DDR400 CL1.5-2-2-5 which will are also capable of DDR600 CL2.5-4-4-7

And as you well now you can normally push them a bit further!

I think its about time we had some better memory available hopefuly this will inspire competitors to follow suite.

Is that the Winbond -W (BH5) or Samsung -S (TCCD) me old pal?

Both the samsung and winbond are rated at 1.5-2-2-5 @ 200MHz, but only the Samsung is rated to 2.5-4-4-7 300MHz. The winbond's max rating is 2-2-2-5 250MHz with up to 3.8v.

Yeah, loosening the timings on BH-5 doesn't seem to help the clock by much - like it does with TCCD/5.

BH-5 @ DDR600 would be nice though :D
