Anyone running a GTS 450?

Just wondering if anyone has one folding? PPD seems quite good (double my 8800gt)

I wouldn't mind slapping a GTX 460 in this rig but i dont think my psu will take one? dual 12v rails, 18a on both, what ya think? risk a 460 or go for the 450?

From what I've read they seem like pretty decent folders. 9-10k ppd and they overclock really well. If you can afford the extra money I'd still probably go 460 but a 450 is still a good compromise.

What brand PSU is that and what else does it need to power up ?

riotcity76 is correct

450 directCU can be had for £99

a refrence 460 768 can be had for £126

so if u get 10k stock then when overclocked and with the new shaders it wont be so bad

id go for the 460 mate, no one seems to be buying the 450 so its value will bomb seriously bad so ull keep better value in the 460 should u decide to sell on and upgrade later down the line

Hi guys, its an old Dell Dimension 9200 375watta (i know these psu's can take a 8800gtx) its already powering a C2D E6600 & 8800gt so i think it should handle the 450 but im not so sure about a 460.

Palit say 22a for the 450 & 24a for the 460

but other companies say 38a so

i know they like to cover themselves but id like to do the same.

If i can give this old machine a new lease of life folding wise with the least outlay then

if i can't then a new rig will have to be built

& that goes for my other system as well

I don't imagine a 460 will over power it but it does depends on the CPU load and draw too.

If the Dell PSU isn't proprietary fittings then you could even add a newer 580w PSU for around the £50 range.

Well if i added a 450 or 460 then i wouldn't run the SMP client like i am now because doesn't gpu3 take one core anyway? besides the way it is now its hardly worth smp folding on a dualcore that isn't on more than 12hrs per day as i nearly always miss the bonus deadline anyway

As for upgrading the psu, im not sure if the Dimensions had proprietary psu's? i know i can add another psu to my Vostro 410 which i know ill have to do if i want to add a 460 to that machine as the psu is only 350w with 18 & 12a 12v rails (mind you it's running a q6600 & 8800gt quite happily)

Its a bit of a gamble at least it feels a bit like it, with a dell PSU

but if its running the QC6600 and 8800GT fine.. i would assume it can run the GTX460 as wel...

You know what i gave away (K little trade) a week ago , a Coolermaster 600w PSU which was perfectly fine for you,

i should of put it in the trade thread on here (forgot about it) and you could of just had it from me ..sorry mate MY bad !

The Q6600 & 8800gt is my other rig Ray, the one with the 350w psu. I wasn't going to upgrade that just yet, the rig im starting with has the E6600 & 8800gt on a 375w.

What are you doing with the 8800gt after you've upgraded (one or both)? I'd be interested in them both for my Mac Pro tower.

Dunno, might sell em or might whack em in some cheap ass barebones machines for added ppd goodness

I would assume it would be around 12000PPD

So my upcoming rig3 is going to be a nice one,

QC i7 860 at 3800Mhz , 3x GTS450 = 45000PPD machine... + - tho !

as a lot can change, with the BIGadv WU's 67xx WU's 611/9xx WU's etc..........

i dont think they sound as appealing when only doing 12k in theory cause ud be better off with 3 460's cause it would take 4 450's to beat that and the 460's will be cheaper v 4 x 450's
