Anyone knowledgeable with car scratches?

Sounds a tad odd asking about this on a tech forum but hey, it's worth a shot. :D

Long story short, chavs have keyed my car twice since taking delivery to it (I've owned it for just two weeks!)

What are the best ways to sort out deep and light car scratches? I've tried using a touch up pen to hide a scratch on the tailgate but that didn't work out too well. I also smudged some of the new paint over undamaged original paint. How would I go about removing it?

Photos as below

Bonnet Scratches

Tailgate Scratch

The smudges around the scratch is the touch up paint that I tried to remove after over applying.

and a close up.

Suggestions welcomed. :)

Something like scratchX or Tcut would likely make a dent in it (in a good way), although it looks like youve got a clearcoat on there.

One of them looks like it could do with some wet-n-dry but you really need to measure the paint thickness before you do that. A friendly bodyshop would machine polish them out for a few quid. That chip, however, would need a few layers of paint then a sand and polish

Right run your nail over the scratches dude and see if they are very deep. If its just a clear coat scuff (why its white) then Ive got some cutting compound I can send you that will get it out. Then all you will need to do is use that and go over it with a good quality polish after like Auto Glym Super Resin polish.

As for the chip thats a pita as you armt really going to get rid of that without some time & paint.

I popped into Halfords today to get some of the above mentioned stuff though funnily enough, the store manager said that the Scratch X had been stolen. When does the anti social behaviour end?!

I walked away with some T Cut for metallic paint and a nice new cloth. As I understand, T Cut takes layers of paint off the car and I'll need to be cautious so I'd rather leave the stuff alone until anyone actually suggests using this. We're talking solely about the bonnet scratches now as it's quite clear that I won't be able to do too much about the deeper one on the tailgate. Cheers for the reply!

Sounds interesting. Just popped outside again and some of the scratches are white'ish and some are more of a grey. Likewise, some seem like light scratches, some a little deeper, though none of the ones on the bonnet are as bad as the one on the tailgate. Not sure if that helps at all?

Would you suggest the careful application of TCut on the lighter scratches? Cheers for the reply. :)

T cuts is ok but that also has to be polished after or the paint will dull and fade in the sun. T cut isnt as harsh as the stuff I have so its fine, just get rubbing!

Remember polish after - very important.

Righteo. I'll get digging in the garage for some polish and if I find some, hopefully I'll have slightly prettier photos of the paintwork to show! Cheers for the advice.

How much T Cut is too much? I'm a tad concerned about being somewhat overzealous with the product and finding myself with a patch with a completely matt finish!

to see the effect of t-cut rub it on a coin (1p) always start a little at a time, rob -wipe - check, repeat as needed

you mentioned garage in your last post, put the car in it :) or get one of these :) link
