Anyone else have a 2wire 2700hgv / BT business hub

They are supposed to be the mutts nuts atm especially for longer lines. You need to DNS poison it to stop BT phoning home and basically locking it to BT but from what I've gathered its pretty nifty. You can also get SBC firmware (American) to make the wireless go up to 400mw! Thats four times the uk limit basically allow you to wipe out neighbourhood wireless networks and probably cooking anything near it lol. You can adjust the power mind you.

Anyone else got one before I take the plunge :)

I've seen a few in offices where I do IT support, but never had to mess about with them. I have had a quick look at the router settings page (which looks horribly like windows).

I just did a search on google and it seems the firmware is readily available to download.

What type of antenna's do these BT Business routers have on them?

Can they operate well overclocked/overpowered?

I have overclocked a few wifi routers (linksys) before to gain more range, but not sure why you would need to if you don't have problems with range.

It is interesting tho :)

What are you hoping to gain by getting one?

edit: Just noticed this:

**Warning** Flashing newer versions of the BT Business Hub (2wire 2700HGV) with the sbc recovery_425 firmware mentioned in this thread, will cause the router to stop working

I can get one £45 delivered preloaded with SBC firmware (unlocked and allows wireless power config)

Both the speedtouch and netgear (the one idnet lent me) both gave "poor" signal in my semi detached house in my bedroom (hardly a big house). Plus, well i dont have a bad line, but as idnet put it, my stats are down to electrical interferance on the line so it varies a bit. My current speedtouch 580 drops connection alot - connections errors on counter strike primarily. Pings have strangely gone to 30 now from my usual 20ish

Your current synch rate is 8128 (with an SNR margin of 11dB) but your Profile is 4500. Detailed dignostic output is below. In essence I think it is saying that you are suffering from spike of electrical noise interference that is causing problems for your line. You will need to hunt down the cause and eliminate it.

Cheers

Simon

That be from Idnet ^ after testing with the netgear (same stats).

Cool :)

My dad had really bad problems with wireless in his house due to the walls being so thick. We had 2 D-Link Ap's running in bridged mode to get any signal downstairs :( I put in a overclocked linksys with custom firmware and it was 2x better than the 2xD-Links and he could even get signal in the garden :)

So overclocking/overpowering the Xmit power on wifi works so long as the antenna can take it.

It will be interesting to see if that router makes any difference :) as long as you don't mind spending that sort of money.

I was getting lots of connection drops on IDNet adslmax with all the routers I tried also

Does that router have the option for a custom SNR setting so you can set your sync up/down? (down to stabalise the conn/ping)
