Any Point Getting Higher Than 3000MHz ?

Currently have 32GB of 3000MHz memory, I'm not looking to swap out as for me there would be no point but what programs/apps would actually benefit from say for example 4200MHz memory which you can get from OCUK ?

Does your dough have an expiry date? If not then no :D

I have tried fast ram kits and even overclocked some manually to go even higher, all have practically no benefit if all your going to really do is game.

I'll only be swapping out my memory next when DDR5 comes out but I'm just curious apart from certain benchmarks if there's any actual point to stupidly high clocked ram :)

Short answer is no for gaming :D

I believe WYP (When he was the awesome Urahara!) did a write up on faster ram speeds for gaming a while back.

I myself leave my g.skill kit at 3333mhz (or something :D ) cause thats the best speed that I can set it at whilist having a modest OC on my 5930k. Tried tweaking voltages to no avail. Too bad really.

bottom line is that you arent really missing out on anything. I personally put more emphasis on timings at the moment for DDR4.

Yep, I know. Got pretty lucky with this one. Can't OC it past 4.7 without insane voltages for minimal to no increase in frequency. 4.7 is more than enough for everything I use it for..

In a very few games you can get a tiny performance increase with faster memory but it is a total waste of time and money.

You are far better off spending any extra money on a better GPU which will give a lot bigger increase.

Faster RAM can also have a negative effect of reducing performance slightly too in some games.

Lower latency beats high clock speed every time in memory and ddr4 currently has crap latency unless you spent serious bucks and even then the gain is only small like a few fps

A lot of CPU's wont even go that high fella, not without insane volts anyways.

I'm happy with 3000MHz, Even done my own testing by lowering clocks to 1866 and saw maybe 1FPS difference and I think that was a fluke ^_^

It was just out of curiosity to be honest, I was browsing OCUK and noticed 4200MHz kits and wondered if anything could actually use that amount of oompf :)

Partially mostly for bragging rights as well, I would personally assume... Other than that, as others have already pointed out. Waste of money and no real gain in performance or so.
