Hey peeps was wondering is anyone here using a HOTAS and if so what do you use?
I'm thinking about buying on for Star Citizen but am unsure which to try and get
With Logitech now buying out Saitek is it maybe worth waiting to see what they eventually release or is there something to grab now
Cheers All

Yeah I play Elite Dangerous and a few flight sims (poorly) on a 10 year old X-52. Lots of complaints about the newer generation stuff from Saitek once Madcatz bought them out but the older gear seems pretty solid. Fingers crossed the move to Logitech fixes the QC issues. The only problem I have is the profiling software doesn't work as well as it used to (bought this one back in Win XP days so fair enough) and there's a squeak developing. After countless hours of IL-2 and over 7 weeks in game time of E: D i'm not complaining at all.

Do you have pedals? The Thrustmaster Warthog is the ducks nuts but doesn't have a twist stick so you'd need pedals or a dual stick setup is pretty popular for SC as well. There's a new T1600 FCS that looks really suited to your needs as well which is a lot cheaper.

I've tried using the X52 for MWO but that game seems better suited to a mouse for aiming. HOTAS is great but I just can't hit anything as quickly. Mind you I don't have many hours in that game.

There are a few dual stick videos for Star Citizen that may be worth checking out. I have a cheap tablet running ROCCAT Power Grid for shortcuts and with HOTAS you really don't need the keyboard at all aside from in-game chat.

Thrustmaster Hotas Warthog here with Saitek combat pro pedals :)

Having been spoilt by the build quality of the Warthog I find it quite difficult to look at the other offerings these days, but the new Orange T.16000 thing with the new slidey throttle is getting good reviews. Ralfi-dude did a decent one on it:

For the money it's a cracking stick and throttle.

I would definitely avoid the current Saitek offerings until Logi sort them out and make some new releases, the X56 Rhino is a bag of crap and won't last more than about a month, the build quality is horrendous. (we have one in the office and it barely lasted even a month, and believe me we use joysticks ;) )

If you can pickup an X-52 though, that's probably worth having :)

Thrustmaster Hotas Warthog here with Saitek combat pro pedals :)

Much jealous. I can't find Combat Pro pedals for anything less than ridiculous money ATM. I've been empted by the Cessna style as they look similar but I'm a little hesitant due to the QC. I'll wait for some longer term reviews.

I've actually been trialling my G29 Pedals as rudder and they work surprisingly well. The downside is having the steering wheel attached.

Yes that T1600 looks the goods.

Thanks so much for the info guys I do like the idea of a warthog and @$589 I guess it's not too expensive but then add $200 for pedals and it's starting to get up there will try and see if I can get the T1000 oops T16000 :p

Typical can't buy the T16000M here in aus
Scorptec have a deal with the warthog with the warthog pedals for $719

That's a damn shame, but you won't be disappointed with the warthog, it's pretty much the best built stick there is. It's metal and it shows.

Warthog pedals? Link ? *piqued interest*

Amazon can get you a T16000 FCS delivered for $230AUD - got to love how rubbish our dollar is at the moment.

The warthog is pretty much bullet proof. It's certainly on my wish list!

Oh those pedals, I've not used those, they look a little close together for comfort to me, but they'll match the set nicely :)

Yeah you could beat someone to death with the warthog it weighs a tonne

I just ordered the Thrustmaster T16000M FCS for the money and quality all the reviews I've seen so far say it's the best entry to mid HOTAS on the market and for just over $200Au delivered couldn't go past it
Thanks to all for your input really happy I asked

I use the Saitek X55 Rhino on Elite and love it, only issue with it is that it is lighter than it looks so I had to screw it to my desk.

It's got enough buttons etc on it that I never need to use the keyboard for any commands.
