Should be. The acid your using will give you a sting, but if you wash it off it should be fine. Generally you can take the top off to fill them up with distilled water if you ever need. That was the case with the Nascar batteries (long story), and I think most batteries ought to be like that.
If not, then drill a hole near the bottom, drain the acid into the plastic container, then extract the lead.
The acid will be about 30% w/w so you can happily dilute it some what. If you have some nitrile gloves and safety specs it might help (just in case) and putting on a lab coat/something that isn't absorbent and you don't care if it gets ruined.
Oh and don't intentionally drip the acid on and then proclaim it doesn't hurt, only to have a permanent burn mark about 10 minutes later (a friend discovered the joy of chemistry at uni)
