Hello everyone. My name's Sacha.- Rather than overclocking my current system (which is probably easier, yet I am still apprehensive about it), I decided to 'future-proof' my machine and upgrade MOBO,CPU,RAM. Read some reviews, and it seems Tiger Direct helped me put together a good system (still waiting for the MOBO to arrive). I am hoping that I won't need to OC my system, but I would certainly like to leave the option open to light-medium OC.
My old setup was Core 2 Duo 2.66 Ghz with NVidia 680i MOBO and GTS-450(recent) combo, topped off with 3 gigs of cheap ram.
My new setup will change that to i7-950 on Asus Sabertooth X58, and ram as yet undecided;I would like 4GIG, but it seems as though even if I don't use it, I'm still better off with 6 just in case (sticking with XP-32 for now - my Win7 upgrade is still up in the air, though I don't know if I will go 64 or win7 at all from fear of compatibility).
My absolute MAIN drive for this system is FSX useability, and I like to build affordable systems that will sustain me for a long time. Current price tag: $650 CAD.
I am keeping all my old hardware: mid-tower case, a 600w econo PSU, 500Gig seagate HD with 150Gig old HD for backup, and an old LG DVD-R/RW drive. I know that the old HD and DVD-ROM will probably slow things down a bit, as well as the limited use of ram on 32-bit systems, but.....I can't have it all just yet. I will likely upgrade the stock CPU cooler to something better, though not sure if right away or after I decide to OC.
Any thoughts or advise are welcome!
