It is rumored that AMD's Zen CPU Silicon will only be used to make 8-core CPUs initially, meaning that AMD will not be making and specific Quad Core Zen-based silicon.

I REALLY want Zen to be amazing, I keep saying it but I would love to finally have an all AMD build :)
I know, I would as well. It doesn't have to topple a 6700K for me to invest in it. All it has to have is equal the performance of a 4790K at a cheaper price with a decent selection of motherboards and I'll be happy.

Like I said previously, just has to be competitive. If they can match at least Haswell I7s, OC pretty well, and have really good chipsets/boards at launch, i think it would turn out to be a success so long as it's priced accordingly to it's performance.

For me to invest in an AMD setup it would at the very least have to match what Intel has out currently.

I'd really consider swapping back to AMD if it can match my Xeon E3-1231 v3. We need the competition. I have a soft spot for AMD as the first system I built used an AMD CPU and GPU. I was almost disappointed when I came to upgrade to realise that AMD simply wasn't a competitive option for gaming anymore.
