AMD's RX 480 will cost $199

We've known it was 8 core 16threads for a while now Dicey:p
I'm really hoping it's at least faster than Broadwell. Otherwise I don't see much going for it unless power consumption is extremely low and the chipset has all the latest possible tech.

Honestly I put very little stock into rumours unless said company comes out and spills the beans.

Take the 1080 for example, Was meant to have 8/16GB of HBM2 and be lightyears ahead of a Titan X.

That was a fanboys dream too lol
HBM2 isn't in high enough mass production. It's been basically back ordered from P100 chips and Vega. Even the P100 is ONLY going out to very limited amount of top customers as there simply isn't enough of them. So for anyone to think the less profitable 1080 would get it, were highly mistaken. By end of year, it'll be high enough production for both Vega and P100. Well hopefully at least... It'll be more than 6 months time by then

I just found a few more Ashes of Singularity benchmarks and had another look at the benchmark leak and subsequently took some time to reflect. AMD does a lot better in AoS compared to other games, that combined with AMD obviously going to pick the benchmark they stack up the best against nvidia for marketing purposes makes me think that the leaked graph seems to be quite accurate as to which performance we can expect from RX480 CF setups, and that's basically 1070 performance. Not too sure about how great of a deal this is anymore, i'd have a 1070 over RX480 crossfire for sure.

A single GPU solution is usually better if you have the money. For a fourteen year old it's much more manageable for mum or dad to buy one RX480 for example and then they can earn their own money and get a second one later. Or birthdays etc.
Yeah there will be drawbacks as far as scaleability and power usage but it looks pretty sweet and is a good way to add a bit of GPU horsepower now and a bit more later.

What are the most common cards in use atm? I'd doubt it would be even the 970 or equivalent. I'll have to go have a look at the steam hardware survey. Top end is a small percentage and is all about bragging rights. I'd say the money is made in the midrange tiers.

Edit - I was wrong 970 is most popular (only 4.89% Dec 2015) and is closely followed by an IGPU (intel HD4000) The point stands however that most of the users run Mid to low range.

Dual GPU MAY change with DX12 in the future and lets not forget AMD is working closely with Microsoft

This is very hard to ignore. I want one. I'm good at 1080p so this is all I need.

I doubt that we'll see such an increase in performance next year. This was done thanks to Nvidia and AMD switching to 16nm/14nm FinFet. Unless they suddenly figure out how to make it 10nm or 7nm.

Here's the issue some may have missed. The Demo cards they were using were 2 x RX 480 8GB cards, not the RX 480 4GB. The 8 GB version will run about $50 more than the 4 GB so 2 x $249 instead of 2 x $199. Still, even then, that's damned impressive. And yes, it is still more than $200 less for the two cards. Especially if both card chips come from the same batch....:)

that explains the < $500 thing then

The 1070 will have 8GB as standard right? Yea so two decent RX480s will cost me at least 500€ while a single 1070 will cost ~450€. That's an easy choice.

Will Tinytomlogan be reviewing this card soon? It would be sweet to see a comparison performance in benchmark from a single rx480 versus a single gtx 1080 and duel rx480 versus a single gtx 1080.

I'm playing blackdesert on a r9 295x2 with an fx 8350 and it isn't perfect but it isn't terrible either. I average 30 - 50 fps in most areas with Calpheon city sometimes dropping my frames in some spots. I wanted to see if it would be a worthwhile upgrade and I always like Tinytom's reviews, because he's so thorough with them.

Your CPU is the issue there.

`all i want amd to show me is. 480 1:1 bench comparison vs a 390x and from there i can tell what im looking at.. I dont need to know what it does in 1 game vs a 980. or 970 or 1070 etc..
just show me what it does vs a 390x. this removes the game favours amd cards debate. and i know how a 390x compares to a 980 or a 970
i still think the 480 will be about the same as a 780ti. and at the price it should be thats a decent chunk of gaming power for a small amount of money.

Suffered a lot from thermal throttling when I had mine and I hooked 2 x static pressure fans up to mine at full speed to tame the temps.

For it to shine it really needs proper WC.

Well it just needed more rad space tbh. 120 is not enough for that much TDP. It's possible.. With Delta fans and we know how insane those run!

I completely agree mate they should show us the comparison to a 390X

The NDA lifts the 29th. I can't wait to see the AIB cards. Some of the things I have heard coming down the line might be some exciting stuff.
