AMD Zen 4 Ryzen 7 7700X and Ryzen 9 7950X Review

I’d say for 5800X3D, even though it may be an ”EOL” socket, it will still be fine for few more years and by that time, even newer stuff will probably have come out and the new stuff now, will be both probably cheaper, have more support and be stable overall.

As what Alien said above, getting an GPU will most likely and probably give you a bigger boost than an CPU, especially if you’re on higher resolutions.

This is a good point. By the time the 5800X3D is looking a little worn out compared to any future CPUs, so will a 7700X or even a 7800X3D.

I mean, just look at yourself, your sig says 1600X. Even that still does the job today and will most likely still kick ass in 2024. Sure it may be slower than any 7000 series CPU, but how much of that more power will actually be of use for said person?...

I see many people getting hung up on said platform being "EOL", sure it may not have more future hardware support on it. But it wont all of a sudden be obsolete. Some people are still even rocking 4790Ks, which are very old by todays standards. But it if it does the job for them, then who cares?

What Alien and many others have said so many times, which Ive personally only recently just about realised, is that any new release is just a mind game essentially. All tailored to get you to think you actually need it and spend uneccessary money, when in reality youll most likely be just fine with what you have for years to come.

God knows I have and I regret it so badly...

Most recently the only thing that has made me want to upgrade from the 5800X is Cyberpunk 2077 because of how bad the CPU bottlenecks can be.

So much new tech is like that, I totally agree.

That said, the 1600X even at 1440p falls behind quite a bit to the newer stuff, even the low-mid tier 5600 or 12400F. Putting in a 5600 straight into my X370 motherboard would net about 30% improvement in frames with a GPU that can output 100+ frames at 1440p, which is the sweet spot I try to game at. That's actually one of the cheapest ways for me to boost my performance.

I want to build a whole new system though so that's not realistic.

The want vs the actual here and now need, that's the eternal question...

Maybe buying a used 5 series CPU as a stop gap until pricing and availability pans out a bit might be in order?

Yeah, that's good advice. The thing is, I would like to build for the sake of a build. It's been years since I built a PC, and I'd love to build an SFF system that's really efficient. I'm more of a PC enthusiast now than a gamer. That's why I'm thinking of going with the 5600 and a 6700 non-XT (or potentially waiting for Navi 33), over an Nvidia card and an Intel CPU. Even though they'll be faster in many workloads, they'll also be hotter.

I can't argue with that logic as I'm pretty much in the same mindset :D

I have my 5800X3D, B550, 3070, daily driver/workstation and my 12600K, Z690 (DDR4), 3080 12Gb, plaything; yes, I still game on both but I enjoy the tweaking/tinkering side of things just as much.
