I'd say thats on the whole not a bad showing of the next ark problems are expected half the reason i'll upgrade at the end of AM5 than the start, performance wise i'd say it's not big enough for me to want or need it just yet.

Even if it wasn’t for the fact Pound Sterling as of now is at a 50 year low, The UK is unofficially/officially in recession and the cost of living is now in the stratosphere...

But any generation of CPU that requires direct die cooling/lapping plus AIO/watercooling out of the box and also has limited cooler compatibility a week before it's official release…

Sorry but no, I’m out, after sticking with AMD for four CPU generations I’ll wait to see what the new Intel offering is on this occasion.

According to other reviews I've seen that show the 5800X3D in gaming I'm quite impressed that it's either on par, 1-2 FPS behind or way ahead of the 7950X, Will be interesting seeing what the 7800X3D brings.

It's generally not looking good for the UK, Was watching the BBC news before and 1 official type person said "We'll be lucky if the UK doesn't get 3rd world country status within the next couple of years" which was a little surreal to hear.

I picked up a 5800X3D at a snip price to replace my 5800X Dice :)

I'll stick with my 5800X3D, B550, 3070 workstation build and my 12600K (5.2GHz), Z690 (DDR4 flavour), 3080 12Gb plaything for the foreseeable future methinks.

I'll decline to comment further on the state of the UK, not because I don't care, rather IMO events all started with that f*ckwit Johnson and it makes my blood boil just thinking about it dude.

Not really the correct thread for this subject, although I must have badly missed something here as seeing I thought that UK was doing rather well?…

Good choice, 5800X3D is a great chip :)

Not even close bud, The UK is not in good shape.

Really? How so?…

Didnt you say "not really the place for this subject" ? ;)

Anyway, UK went downhill the moment they voted out of the EU, and they have not recovered since. Covid era didnt help either.

GPB has been hit hard which is good for me, but bad for the residence.

I'm a little on the fence with this one. Ordinarily I'd be jumping at an arch upgrade from AMD but while the 7950X looks pretty strong in isolation (especially under Linux) , I have a feeling it will take a quarter or so for the new AM5 platform to settle down. It is interesting that Tom was having issues with the Crosshair X670E / 7950X combo, I watched a ROG video and they only used a 7900X, something suspect if Asus themselves are not going balls to the wall with the 7950X. Then again, GN showed AMD using a Crosshair X670E with LN2 setting a world record so the power delivery is there.
DeBauer getting 20C improvements with delidding is an example of AMD stapling themselves to the cross of backward compatibility - I wonder if this can even be revisited or should we remember that the X3D models will be higher under the heat spreader?
Wendell at L1Techs also showed that Asus dropped the ball with X670E by not supporting ECC DDR5 whereas Asrock has.

Its funny how thing change, last time around we were throwing money at Scan, OCUK, Caseking, etc to get on a list.. My rig still has effortless performance, i'm not rushed but you can only put off a new platform for so long.

I do really like these CPUs, but it's true what many of you have all predicted, that the platform adoption prices are too high at the moment when a Z670 board with a 12600K or an AM4 board with a 5800X3D is close in performance for noticeably less money and noticeably fewer bugs.

I still think these are worth buying and would make a great system, but waiting for Raptor Lake and the 3D cache versions makes more sense for enthusiast buyers who are primarily gamers.

For budget guys like myself, a 12th gen part like a 12400F or a 12600K makes more sense, or a 5600 or 5700X.

Being on an old platform, z370/8th gen Intel, to me it would make more sense to go AMD just because the little bit I pay more upfront to adopt the newest technology will probably be offset when I upgrade to the latest AM5 CPU whereas Intel will force me to upgrade everything yet again. Save now spend more later or vice versa.

Even upgrading to the options you mentioned as an alternative is still expensive and may as well upgrade to newer imo

I've looked around and the 5800X3D is still faster than even the 7950X in the vast majority of games, Will be interesting seeing the 7800X3D when it releases likely next year.

We have it in as many graphs as we could do - I sadly didnt get a CPU from AMD and instead nabbed it out of a system review that we were doing at the time and then tested it in our own test rig.

Basically we sadly cant go back and retest it :(

Good recommendation. Thanks bud! I think that's what I'll do.

given that the 7000 series comes with the new socket, is it even worth it (for gaming) to buy a cheap(er) 5800X3D and pop it into my Crosshair VIII X570 or would it be a ridiculously small gain on my 3800X?

Depends on the game I'd guess. Either one is a big upgrade from a 3800x. I'd say look up all reviews to find the games you play with and make an educated guess as to the price/performance lift you'd get.

Still you are upgrading to an EOL socket. Eventually you'll have to upgrade everything. Like I told Mr. Fish spend more now save later or vice versa whether it's AMD or Intel upgrade paths. No right or wrong answers it boils down to personal preference

It's quite a bit faster. It's still top tier for gaming.

However, you have to ask yourself if you are having issues that make it worth doing. I would say there is a strong chance there are no issues.

You're better off buying a new GPU if you don't have a better one. As that is one place you will always get a big speed boost, if you need it of course.

I’d say for 5800X3D, even though it may be an ”EOL” socket, it will still be fine for few more years and by that time, even newer stuff will probably have come out and the new stuff now, will be both probably cheaper, have more support and be stable overall.

As what Alien said above, getting an GPU will most likely and probably give you a bigger boost than an CPU, especially if you’re on higher resolutions.
