AMd x4 or x6 ?

Hey there guys, basically my curernt rig is in my sig (haha that rhymes) and im going to be leaving this as a gaming machine as I have plans to build another rig for 24/7 use out of parts I have here. It will be used for my day to day nonsence but msot importantly some 3d work, I'll be using prorgams like 3dsmax, maya and photoshop to name a few alongside some music stuff.

Im in need of some help picking a cpu for the build and its the only part im missing at the moment, I could pick up a x4 cheapish on fleebay or could buy another x6 at a bit more expense. Is it worth getting a x6 for this sort of thing or should I just pick up a x4 instead ?

Well I have all these spare parts to be put to use so figured 'why not' lol, its not gunna be for a little while yet but essentially I'd like to have sepperate setups that I can go between when needed.
 
You could sell them and get a second 6950

I like to keep some of my parts from time to time cos you never know what you'll wanna do + I just want the excuse to build another rig in a lovely white case lmao

You should have waited for bulldozer some of them are being released on the 22nd next week including some 8 core cpu’s. Even if you didn’t want any of the new bulldozer cpu’s the prices on the am3 cpu’s will go down.
 
I just picked up an x6 1090T and have been loving the hell out of it.... I really wanted to move up to an SSD on SATA III so I just said screw it and replaced my old X4 with a new proc & sata3 mobo for the SSD and the new setup is wicked tits.

I agree on the sentiment to check out Bulldozer though. I picked up an AM3+ mobo just in case the Bulldozers are so badass I just have to have one, lol.
 
I haven't bought anything yet, still waiting it out atm as im about to do up my room so putting most of my time into that

I'm waiting on some BD info before I decide what im doing but even then I may just upgrade the CPU in this rig instead but thats only if BD is worth it
 
Yah I was readin some of that stuff a bit earlier, by the look of things I'll be sticking with this rig and use it for everything but if BD is as good as it should be I'll upgrade the cpu in this
 
If you want cheap and like to gamble a little, get a Deneb based Athlon II x3/4 or Phenom II x2/3 and unlock it. Do you know how to spot one ?

I've had mine running at sig/24 7 specs for almost a year already.

I've got a x2 550 that unlocks to x4 but I've loaned it to a friend at the moment.

Hes saving up for a new pc build but he was runnin a x2 and was looking for some extra beef.. its not fantastic but does better than his previous
