AMD Teases new FX CPU

Recently AMD has been Quiet on the CPU front with only a bunch of low end components being added to their lineup. Just now Roy Taylor has shown us what could be a CPU to fight a Mid to High-end battle with Intel, lets hope this isn't another overclocked FX-8350.

It looks like there's an AIO Liquid Cooler boxed with the mystery CPU too. Is it a new FX-9000 series chip, or is it something else I wonder?

Hmm, interesting. As far as any roadmaps go there shouldn't be a 8-core steamroller coming, so i doubt this is one :(.

I hope it isn't another FX-9000 chip, those things were just ludicrous. Perhaps it is a FM2+ steamroller without a GPU? designed for overclocking perhaps?

I honestly doubt it's another FX-9000 series CPU. I just don't see them getting the clocks higher than 5GHz on the FX-9590; there wouldn't be much point in releasing something similar. As a result I'm inclined to think it's something new.

Is it the much vaunted Steamroller FX? Or are there new motherboards coming or something?

Nonetheless, as an AMD guy it's nice to have something to be excited about again. :p

Considering that they've been using the FX name for FM2+ athlons in prebuilds for sometime now I'd not get excited. If it has its own liquid cooler though chances are its another FX 9xxx does 5.5ghz.

Actually, scratch that. It'll just be a branded cpu cooler. As you can tell I have my doubts :(.

Oh piss off and let us AMD fanbois have some hope for a change. :p

;)

This is from Kitguru. Currently their are a few Kaveri mobile APUs that use the FX naming.

ahhhh yeah i remember seeing that, thought they were just mobile CPU's though. it will be a shame if its not a high end CPU, AMD are well overdue an update

I'm reading this on my 8320 with a 280x currently ;P. I'm hoping against hope its the true successor to the Phenom X6.

Looking at the server roadmap they were planning to release a 12core opteron based on Steamroller. hrm....

I read something on kitguru a while back about the use of FX cpu naming on OEM desktops that used the athlon. My thoughts are that if its a cpu as well as a cooler, chances are it'll be powerhungry and warm. The Athlon chips really aren't. Either way I'm interested. :P.

saying that i cant see those APU's needing watercooling, so maybe they really do have a new CPU that they have kept really hush hush

If it's something on FM2+, motherboards like these really start to make sense:

That would actually explain the higher end FM2+ motherboards that are coming out.

The plot thickens, tbh I wasn't expecting anything until next year. Expere

claimed that was the case a while back. Quote taken from kitguru.
The new AMD micro-architecture is projected to be unveiled in late 2015. Theoretically this may mean that at the time the Sunnyvale, California-based chip designer will also reveal all-new FX-series chip and/or Opteron microprocessors. Early next year AMD is expected to release code-named Carrizo APUs powered by Excavator cores, the highest-performing Bulldozer-based offerings.

When, where, how fast, will it make my coffee, and how much? They need to just release anything and everything that is not an apu like jeez we get it you guys love accelerated software performance but come on we need some battles not ass kicking in intel's favor.

I hope it is a FX 9000 CPU, the fact it is shipping with a AIO leans towards it being a hot running CPU though.
