AMD RX Vega pictured

I do feel AMD could do with a little less looking like bricks/box coolers. Then again, there's always aftermarket cooled solutions.

Lol, that is brilliant.

TBH as far as reference designs so I'd say focus on cooler performance. Yes, the Nvidia Founders Edition cooler looks nice, but do we really need all that metal and all those fancy angles?

I know a lot of people would prefer to have a GPU that is a little cheaper, aftermarket cards and water blocks will come afterwards for the people who want more cooling performance and a better aesthetic.

I just hope that AMD can offer a great price/performance ratio.

I think it having the bargain bin cooler will hurt sales, why make your halo product look like it was produced as cheaply as possible.

Doesn't bother me personally. I actually like the understated look. What will bother me is if it is another crappy all aluminum block with a tiny bit of copper for the plate.

I will survive the looks. performance, and price are the main things to be considered about. Most of people usually buy 3rd party models.

Say that the cooler is farking horrible..! Nvidia has done it great with their stock cooler, it looks nice and sleak and will look nice in any system.

Also if you want better then go aftermarket - even so you can leave the blower style and it still is a looker.

AMD has yet again done a horrible job for a stock cooler. No one can say that they LIKE this look. The FE I can say that many like it, even though its not the best for thermals.

I like the look...
I just want it to have a competent thermal solution underneath

Polaris used a cheap cooler. But, I could get my head around that because it was not an expensive card at launch. But to use the same cheap plastic and exactly the same design on Vega? come on now. When you saw it taken apart you could see it was nasty (Polaris). It was also noisy, because it was so hollow etc.

This may be the cheap one though. I still hold out hope that the more expensive one will have the silver cooler they were showing off ages ago.

A lot of people bought the 480 8gb at launch because it was much cheaper than a Sapphire. It was the same money for a 4gb Sapphire for example.

Actually you guys have raised a good point talking about stock coolers and so on. At least if that really is the cooler then we will be seeing proper third party cards unlike Fury X.

But don't the leaks say NO third party cards??? At least for the top model?

They did yes, but they may have been confused with Vega FE.

Either way it seems AMD really did not have a clue with the whole debacle. It's seriously gone from ridiculous on a second class return trip to bonkers and then back again.

At every point they had the opportunity to level with their users but they've hidden absolutely everything. TBH? even if I had waited for Vega then by now I would have been so mad at AMD I would have gone elsewhere even if it meant less performance. Like I did when Nvidia pulled the 970 3.5gb trick and I bought a Fury X knowing it was slower than the 980Ti.

I've stopped getting 'mad' at a company because they didn't give me the product I wanted at the time I wanted it. I think it's kind of sad, really. We don't even know why for sure things have been delayed. The argument is: 'AMD needed to take this long and that's their fault so I'm mad at them and will buy from the competition. They tried to build a GPU that was too complicated', blah blah blah. But ultimately we don't know. All the frustration the community feels is based on assumptions and guesses, criticisms that are valid but don't warrant such resentment. It's just a graphics card. It's not like that turd that artificially increased the price of a needed drug to earn more money. It's the difference between max settings and reducing them, or 60 FPS or 90 FPS. That's it.
